Organizing a cd folder

Can anyone share some light on the best way to sort out a cd folder.

I was thinking of putting everything in different categories like Rock, Pop, country ect ect and then in alphabetical order.

So for Rock It would be AC/DC for example.


Is this the best way to go around this or if there a better way.

this has been covered before, but, as I'm sure you did too, I can't find it in search either.
I and use cases and wallets, the wallets are 60's 70's and 80's and so on and they are compilations.
Then I have cases which hold cd's by artist, alphabetically.

Any help??, probably not......!!!!:D :D

At the moment I still have them named as the cd's they were ripped from then have made folders ie rock, motown etc, and I have an 'emergency folder' containing about 10 tracks from each genre should I suffer from a mind blank.
I have deliberately left them in cd order as I do sometimes use cd's (esp. karaoke, race nights etc) as I still find them easier at times. Uses loads of HD space but these are cheap enough to buy now.

I was looking at the Slappa case that holds 600 cd's. Just easier imo to have it all in one case.

So thats 2 people who do it alphabetical order.

Do yourself a favour--go digital.

Then you wont do your head in trying to work out the best way--everything is filed for you automatically--and you can use crib or prompt material for those blank moments.

No comments on reliability--weve done that one.;)

All the 60's - 90's are together then, clubland, Rock/Indie, R&B now albums ect,
I have one of the 600cd slappa cases as i use cds in the club where i dj and i can be working in the dance, R&B, Electro, & Funky house room, Or i can be upstairs playing 70's and 80's which require alot of 70's & 80's tracks rather than your commercial stuff.

Build quality is excellent,
never had any problems with the case, it is strong, tough and very protective with 2 sections on each wallet one for the CD cover and then one behind for the cd to go in which has a soft fabric to stop the cd getting scratched,

The only issue with this case is when it has aload of cds in it can feel very heavy so using the wheels on it is highly reccomended.

I have a few of the other 160 Cd slappa cases and they are also great not a single problem with them either.

Slappa cases are well worth the money in my opinion.

I was thinking of getting the 600 one for my main selection and a smaller one for the stuff that might not get requested but handy to have like metal. You just never know. lol.

Suggestion for you to consider.

Why not go with a CD/digital hybrid setup. A pair of decks for when you're "in the mix" and a laptop or maybe a Cortex/d2 for the less likely stuff (and for background music to save you having to "mind the decks" for hours on end).

That way you can keep to a minimal CD collection on the road and put all the stuff you rarely play on HDD. A happy trade-off between the hands-on you're seeking and practicality??

All my tracks are random as sigles on each cd in one or two cases, which makes my gigs more varied as i find i play stuff i would not have thought of. Its all about selection with me.

i also have a compilation case with all hits and genres on for emergencies and a laptop too.

Still do not have time to work out the Denon hd 2500!

Random all the way, i recon as long as its within fitting with the gig of course

What I did (before me lappy) was to burn the lot to MP3 disks and have 100 songs on each disc since excel will only list about 100 lines (50 each side of an A4) all set out in Country/Rock/Pop etc. order.:D
You then get those plastic sleeves for the lists and put them in the CD wallets between CD pages. (wallet must be the ring binder type)
I have a pair of denon DNS100s that do MP3s quite well although they find the track quicker if you record the disc at max speed.;)
"Media tagger" (a freebe) Bulk tagged the files from "file name" so they showed up the same on the Disc as on the list, and it linked to excel to make the lists.:beer1: :beer1:
All quite time consuming and now just another back-up :) :) :)

For anyone using CD this really is a problem. My solution...BPM order no matter what the genre. In theory this should work fine and most of the time it does. It only gets annoying when I can't remember the BPM of a particular track that I think will work well, instead of sticking to using BPMs for inspiration. Doh!!

I like that idea. Plus it would be easier when adding new cd's to the folder. So far this is a good one for me. :)
