It looks like it's a go and we are going to get a puppy. YAY.

I have done a lot of research in to the breed and I feel that this dog is the best choice.

It's going to be a staffordshire bull terrier.

I'm so excited. More excited than when I got my Denon. :o

Just thought I would share the news. :):D :)

Haha, nice one! ;) :beer1: I like dogs, but it's impossible for me to keep one, with the amount of time and attention they require! They are the most loyal of friends though, enjoy!

Thanks. We used to hae one when I was a kid but have to give him away toa dogs home as he kept attacking anyone, he was a border collie cross.

The annoying thing is that I will be at work still most of the time so my borther will look after him/her till I get home and then the training will commence. :D:D:D.

Going off topic already I got the pro mobile mag this morning and after reading about how to become a full time DJ I ave set my target to start full time in January 2009, so when that happens I will be at home with my best buddy. :)

Now when I say we I mean I as in the royal we. lol. My folks don't really want anything with it but I know they do really. So it's up to me to buy everything for it. Well it's better than spending loads on stuff I don't need for dj'ing. :o :D

Anyway.

TBH I wanted a small dog first, instead of diving in the deep end. Plus staffs are family pets and actually love being around kids. A good all round family pet. Plus I can also train my other half to get used to a dog aswell. Hehe. :D:D:D :sofa:

To be honest I think Staffordshire bull terrier's are posers or chavs dogs. I wouldn't have one if you paid me they are dangerous, but if that's what floats your boat that's up to you, but don't leave it alone with a child there have been enough tragedies, a labrador cross is a good pet and will not frighten people, but then maybe that's what you want:rolleyes: .

without wishing to start a riot can you prove this statement or is it just a misguided personal opinion :D ? I have come into contact with several staffys throughout my life all have been daft as a brush and soft as :Censored: .yes they have become a chavy status symbol sadly which is a real shame because as a rule they are lovely loyal dogs .

they have only got a reputation for being dangerous because muppet inbred human beings get hold of them that couldnt look after a goldfish never mind a dog.

any animal can be dangerous if you treat it incorrectly next time you are holding a hamster give it a little squeeze and see what it does (beware there maybe blood involved)

to say that all animals of the same breed are dangerous is just in my opinion narrow minded, why do zoo keeper that work with lions not need new arms every day??? because they respect the animal learn about its background and mannerisms , exactly what we should all do when choosing a pet , but we dont .

it is not an animal that is dangerous it is often the people that get hold of it. not always but often.

I understand what you are saying but I really like the breed as they are a small dog.

Believe it or not but staffs are family dogs. You may be thinking about the American Pit Bull where people breed them for fighting. That does happen but it really bugs me when people think staffs are fighting dogs. No they are not. Simple as that.

Yes I agree that they do both look a like but that is becuase of many years of cross breeding.

This was taken from wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Staffordshire_Bull_Terrier) - The Staffie is renowned for its reliability as a family dog, with special emphasis on their reliability with children. The breed thrives in the family environment, being a suitable compact size for close family living. They can be protective of their family, especially those with small children, and it is for this reason that they make an excellent family guardian and watch dog.

I have done a hell of a lot of research about this breed and this fits the bill. For anyone who don't know me, I am not a chav. I listen to heavy metal, the stuff that sounds like a load of noise but if you read the lyrics it has a deep and dark meaning. With that I also listen to everything as this is part of my job. Also I am not a poser and for some who have met me can agre with me that I do not go around thinking I'm all that. I keep myself to myself.

Just thought I would get that out in the open.

Agreed. American pit bulls are not allowed in the UK so they either buy or steal these dogs instead.

Dragonfly you have just stated exactly what I meant, I do agree I should have said can be dangerous, rather than saying are dangerous.

Absolute :Censored:!!!!! They are one of the few dogs that the kennel club recommend to have if you have children! You're not a 'Daily Mail' reader are you?

Having just done a little bit of research, I think people are getting Staffs Bull Terriers mixed up with Pitbull Terriers.

Let's get our facts straight please folks.

You mentioned labradors, which are one of the friendliest dogs around, but I know someone who has one that will go for any stranger who goes upstairs in their house. He is absolutely fine downstairs, but goes into extreme guard mode upstairs. I think he was trained as a guard dog before they got him, but nevertheless, it must have been within him.
