Best laser for under £200?

Ive just been trawling through the many different lasers under the £200 mark, and although the videos look impressive, im still undecided.

Ive heard a few negative comments about lasers made in china, so looked closer to home, only to find the likes of 'laser-uk', selling products remarkably similar to 'Lanling Lasers' on ebay.

Has anyone got any recommendations/suggestions?

You'll probably find that nearly all lasers are made in China as nearly all other lighting effects are these days.

I'm amazed no one on here has pointed you to the pure light laser yet as they did me a week or so again.

Used it for the first time this weekend. Nice, bright laser with a few good programs but really missing DMX but cheap and cheerful and does the job.

Maybe looking into purchasing the red pure light laser in the future.

Depends what you want it for.

If you're looking for the traditional tunnels and lines then the Purelight is highly recommended on here as a budget laser.

If you're after something different, save up a few more pennies and buy a Prolight Nebula. I got my first one last week after reading various raves and comments from others (mainly Darren) and I have to say I was completely blown away by it. Only used at one gig so far but almost every single person in attendance either made comments about it or stood aghast watching the patterns; I observed people pointing and commenting to their friends and it was obvious what they were talking about. I've NEVER had a lighting effect talked about that much before. I had at least 10 or 12 folks come over and ask about it. Sometimes you get comments about the moving heads or the ImpossibLED but this was a different league. Definitely going to get a second.

Actually just realised why it got such interest... I remembered where I live! Folks round here go out on a Saturday night with fold-up chairs and watch the traffic lights change as a form of entertainment :-)

Basically im after a bright (50mw+) green laser, with great sound to light patterns (time tunnels etc....), that works well stand alone, as i don't really want to DMX it.
I cant say i like the look of the twinkling star lasers.

Is there a rule of thumb that can be applied to lasers, to ascertain the brightness of them? One would assume a 30 mW would be brighter than a 10 mW or an 80mW brighter than a 30 mW, but I notice some 30 mW lasers are much more expensive than some 80mW (and have similar programmes). Is the wavelength of any great significance and do they vary by any large degree within any one colour output?

Although I DJ'd in clubs using lasers back in the early '80s, actual knowledge is very limited.

It depends on the colours.

For example, my Nebulas have 50mw green and 100mw red and the green 'looks' much brighter as I believe the eye can see the green better.

i believe you are correct Daz as I have heard the same information , I have also heard please do not take it as read that for a red laser to look round about the same as a green one it needs to be twice as powerful ????

The red lasers would have to be around three times the output to match a green laser. Blue laser looks slightly darker to red. I would also recommend not getting just a single blue but getting an RGB instead, you pay a little more but you get more colour combinations.

Looks a nice bit of kit Neil, but just out of my budget.
