What lights to use?

Hya folks a bit of an unusual one for yous?
With me doing the rock shows am looking for a basic type of light that I can run true sound to light via the jack plug on a pulsar light controller.

The effect is for when I play the long build up tracks such as Pink Floyd kind of stuff.
Basically I would turn all the other lights of and just have say 4 of these lights, possibly par can type lights on sound to light with haze on the slow build up then when the track has built up then switch other lights on too.

Hya mate I am just building up my gear, the only lights I have at the moment are 2 Martin manias which am going to use as a back drop effect.
Am not sure on what other lights to get as yet though?
Am still sorting the sound side at the moment but also been looking for lighting ideas with this question being a brain wave I had for the slower music.

LED pars are good, but you'll never get the same 'punch' you get from a conventional lamp. Narrow beam lamps would work best, and would look good in haze.

That sounds good, what type of leads do they use as the pulsar has bulgins, what would be the best way to set these up?
I know it would be allot easier to just use a dimmer setup and do manually but thought it would look good sound to light.

I agree with Jamie. Parcan narrow beams.
They look awesome if rigged say along the back of the stage on floor / stage level.. then having the point up and out through stage into audience.. criss crossing....
White beams. going wild. great effect.

Hya mate thats also a possibility I was thinking.
I have been thinking of having a tube made up thats curved and would fit on to each upright so curved across the center just above me head on the deck stand so I can fit the 4 lights on to.
Sounds like ill be going for 4 pin spot par36s.

The main reason why I want it on true sound to light is that so I can rig it to the bass channel, so if the sound drops so does the light and only comes on as the sound kicks in, you just dont get quite the same effect with built in sound to light controllers.

Now 2 of them (one each side) with fast to medium dispersing fog would be pretty cool:cool: with a hazer going just to keep a slight overall background:cool: quick blast of the foggers every now and again, like you would do with pyros.

You're limited to what you connect to the Pulsar, it's just mains output, so really it's only PAR cans. Personally I'd go with PAR 56's.
You cannot use LED cans with that type of controller. Although you can get straight lamp replacements for PAR 38's that may work, but they would be no good for your application.

I rekon a combination of LED PARS maybe on the floor for general overall light and colour washing, with PAR56's on your Pulsar for effect, you could even use them like blinders and hit the audience with them.

My view is that if this is for the rock show stuff you mentioned a laser wouldn't really be great.
Also you will need something more than a 36.
A 300w 56 or 500w 64 would do the job. Otherwise they just don't have the punch imho

Yeh the par cans are mainly for the rock show side, the idea for the par cans is for a bit of a blinder effect but obviously not so much as its unwatchable if you know what I mean.

For the general rock stuff what other lights do you think would do well?

I'd say, if you're concentrating on the rock side of things then flat mirror scanners & moving heads (any effect that you can use linked multiples of that have single beams) Possibly an oil wheel too

I agree with Steve. And don't forget parcans really are traditional rock haha.
But seriously - the lights you buy depend on the show you want to give!

I certainly wouldn't get a laser.. (and he does happen to be selling one so I wouldn't fall for that trap..) for a huge amount of reasons.

I have traded my Robocolors for a pair of LEDJ Blockbuster 6 bars (http://www.lifeismusic.co.uk/lights/LEDJ-Blockbuster-6---324-Ultra-5795.aspx).

Fully DMX'able, you can run them on a slow fade or run them STL.
