Stuck Cable

ive got my speaker cable stuck in ma speaker some how suggestions how to get it out only bought it yesterday so no one say cut it :rolleyes:.

There's a metal latch that you have to push first and then you twist the whole connector to release it.

You mean pull instead of push? You have to slide the latch back towards you and turn the plug anti clockwise.

I'm not being funny but do we really think that Ross doesn't know how to undo a Speakon connector?

Mind you, saying that, I don't think Speakons have had many threads on here (without doing a search of the forum) so maybe he's just been using Stereo Jacks until now. In which case, Ross - TonyB has got it spot on. Twist the casing anti-clockwise and pull.

If it's something more complex then it is possible that the locking mechanism has "locked" (for want of a better word) and won't twist anti-clockwise. Then, the only advice I can give is to give the connector a good wiggle and try to coax it out that way. I've seen this happen once before with brand new cables and I think it was just a manufacturing fault with the connector but it came out eventually.

Well, if it's a case of it not twisting, I'd consider forcing it. If it means replacing the speakon connection on the speaker or cable, so be it! I can't see any other way out of it.

That's what I'd do but, if they were only bought yesterday, I'd be contacting the vendor. The Speakon leads I use are £30 each and I wouldn't want to be breaking anything and adding to the cost. I understand that there can be problems off the production line so my advice to Ross is to contact the vendor.

Mind you, in all these years my preference is definitely speakon over jack as I really do think they're a more reliable connection so I really hope this experience doesn't deter Ross from using them again.

Exactly, there designed to lock for a reason, to stop them being pulled out accidentally

I did say to twist the "casing" meaning the whole thing, but I've remembered I've got some leads which do have just a latch to pull back so good point!

My point exactly until they get stuck! I think it's just a case of wiggling them till they get worn in a bit. Getting stuck is a very rare occurrence but it can happen.

I’ve just gone and grabbed a speaker cable and the outer and inner latch is one piece.
Other than the inner latch breaking I can see how it can fail? :confused:

From what I can gather, the grooves that are cut inside the connector might be cut slightly askew so you don't get the best join. It seems to be a very rare thing as I've only seen it once in 9 years. The join is very stiff and needs to be worn in a bit.

I think that's why I now buy the superior cables at £30 for 10m cable. This is oxygen-free copper cable (the very best, imo) with speakons attached. I use the same oxygen-free copper cables for my mics and after years of trying different cables I wouldn't buy anything else.

I used to use jack first time useing speakon but i know how to get them out as i got them out the amp and 1 of the speakers but 1 just aint moving. Cables was £10 and only bought so i dont really want to break it also it may stick in the speaker which might be hard to remove but i will still give it a try and hopfully get it out. The silver lach seems abit rubbish on the connector if you ask me tho.

This is the thing there are a few diffrent kinds of Speakon connectors! Ones with a gray latch, ones with a blue ring on them to locl and ones with metal tabs! What one are you on about...?

Update: Got it out the silver latch is very stiff and bent a bit thats why it wouldnt come out.

Like I said, sometimes they just needed to be worked in a bit. Suppose a lot of new things are like that. I find that the connectors where the whole blue (or grey) casing are better for working properly first time everytime.

Mind you, the catch shouldn't be bent. I'd be calling the vendor!!!

Then I'd suggest (especially considering the price paid) that these aren't genuine Speakon brand connectors. There are a lot of fakes and replicas around so purchase at your peril ;)
