LED Lighting

Right, I'm almost set to upgrade my lighting rig.

I currently use 2 x Acme Gyros, 2 NJD Chaos & 1 set of American DJ Quadra Force.

I want to get rid of all these and change to LED as I've been replacing bulbs quite a bit just recently.

I have a budget of around £500-£600 for a complete new rig.

As there are loads of choices out there, what would you get?
I'm thinking of a 4-head LED par system for washes something along these (http://www.djstore.com/item/lighting_led/proledj01deal.htm) lines for £179. Any help would be appreciated but please bear in mind the budget - I definately cannot go over £600.

I think the par ones you linked to are actually very small (if they are the ones i'm thinking of) and you would be best off going with something like a par 56 / 64 from Thomann.

[edit] They look pretty good, and a colour changer controller all for £160. OK £440 left for effects? Any ideas

Here's what I'm thinking so far:-

4 x LED PAR56 + Controller £160
2 x LED American DJ Quad Gem £249
1 x Prolight LED Starcloth £139
Total = £548

I'm just concerned that the 2 Quad Gems will be enough 'out front' effect. Will probably use the LED PAR's on my stand for 'normal' disco's but for weddings would like to use them to mood light part of the room so will not have much 'out front'. Looking at the LED lights, they are all very similar. Suggestions?

I would be tempted by getting 1 or 2 Impossibled (thomann do a version..) as these do look very good.

I must admit, I do like them, there just so darn huge!!!

I've spent the weekend looking at LED lighting online and I'm pretty set on the Impossibled now. I was using the LED Tango on Saturday and I'm thinking of getting 2 more of these (at under £70 each they're cheap enough).

For my next rig I'm hoping to get all LED lighting - thinking about the savings from not having to replace lightbulbs and not having to wait for them to cool down before I can pack them away. This can only be a good thing.

I have no idea what the other lights are that you mentioned - I don't like LED lighting on the whole (i'm used to good old lamp lights in the theatre ;) )
But the cans and impossibled are the only ones i would go for anyway

impossibleds are great, they are linkable etc for when you need to fill a hall, wouldn't be without mine now.

I might well go for 2 ImpossibLED's then as the reviews are so good. Like I said though, a full set of LED lights might look a bit too similar and I do like the idea of gobos instead of the LED 'dots' but I think the pro's far outway the cons, i.e. bulb life and heat.

Don't rule out laser effects such as the Nebula or Star Cluster - these are low wattage too although unlikely to have the longevity of an LED.

I've now got a happy mix of LED, laser and filament which gives me the best of all worlds I think. If I had to (ie I had a tree-hugging customer) then I could do a whole show with just LEDs/lasers. But the filament stuff just adds that extra impact that LED cannot (yet) bring to the party.

Well, I've taken the plunge, I have ordered 4 LED PAR 56's & controller from Thomann and 1 ImpossibLED & 1 Prolight Starcloth. Grand total of £423.76. :eek:

I'm hoping that 1 ImpossibLED will be enough for now (will use it as a centre piece). I may get another in a couple of months time if I feel the need, or a couple of smaller LED effects to use either side. :D

Now, how can I explain this to the missus :confused: :( :eek:
