just thinking about getting an ultmax stand and wondered who uses what do they hang off it and how often do they use.

a.every gig
b.now and again

etc etc .

i use them occasionally

i've tried putting an evl spin on them, but now i normally just put a LED par can as they are lighter...it can be a pain to put onto the speaker stand as you have to
a) dismantle it and put bottom half on speaker stand
b) put speaker on
c) put top half on bottom half of atlas stand
d) get on a chair or ladder and attach light to top

I probably use them about 50% of the time...mostly weddings....bit of a pain to link the lights esp if the speakers are far apart.

im see so very occasionally im thinking about putting my projector on the top of one.

tbh you don't really see them from the audiences view.....all they see is a light on top of the speaker

If it's just for occasional use why not buy a couple of cheap craplins tripods with the skinny T-bars. I keep mine in the van and find loads of uses for them, from a couple of LED PARs in dark corners to projector and TFT stands (with the right attachments). £29 each I think they are... yep - here you go (http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=28050&C=Maplin&U=SearchTop&T=light%20stand&doy=21m5)

They're not much use as a primary tripod (a bit too flimsy) but for ad-hoc use like you're describing they're perfect. And then you're not restricted on placement.

good idea...how will you attach it?

well when you have a bloke at work who is an engineer by trade is really helps just gave him some rough dimensions and what it was for and he made it up and welded it accordingly. quick coat of black paint and 1 custom projector bracket.

Was thinking of getting some as i do not like over head goal post set ups. then hey presto, i found two screw holes in each of my Gemini GX450 speakers so i now use them for a crap sound lab light, but i will get a couple of impossibleds i think, although a projector is a great idea as i will be above all heads? This is the gig i realized i could do it last weekend:

Yes - I know the set up is a bit dodgy and minimal (there is annother light in the fireplace and the one on the ground is well out of the way), but my girl friend parked in front of the place i keep my gear, took her keys, left her phone at home and took the dogs for a walk!

so only had 30-40 mins to get the WEDDING 20 mins away and set up :bang: did a good job though and they tipped me at the end :)

Yeah I agree, I got mine when they were 1/2 price......perfect for occasional use as described by VV and IMO more versitile than the ATLAS thing.

I've had one of mine used by a Wedding Organiser when she forgot her Table-Plan Stand....bit of gaffa and a few cable ties and away she went!
