Right, this may sound very strange but here goes (it’s a question)

50th,60th,70th etc are the parties, I love best

When I'm older, will I be playing that kind of music? Wham, Yazz Population, Abba etc, because my generation NOW don't listen to that kind of music…

Does it mean that if I carry on DJ'n for the rest of my life and I turn into a miserable 50 year old, DJ'n at a 50th will I be playing Justin Timberlake, Timberland, Bashunters etc as that is the music my/this generation grew up in,

Like the 60 year olds we DJ for now, we play their kind of music as it what they are used to, and grew up in etc…

Does any of this make any sense?

Very slowly, less people will ask for the 50s and some 60s to a certain extent.

Well music moves on my friend and we will move along with it, you might not notice the change much but todays floorfillers that are still going to be around in my thoughts are:

Mark Ronson Feat. Amy Winehouse - Valerie
Ect.

I have noticed that 90's music is around at the moment and is being played at alot of functions that i do,

I've noticed a tendency recently for folks to state that they don't want 50s music, yet on the night are quite happy to get up and jive or do the twist... :o

I challenged one mid-20s bride recently who did this, and she said she thought that Jailhouse Rock et al were 60s songs.

I've often wondered this too.. in 50 years time will we end up having to play a short 90s dance set to keep the 60+ folk happy? With Stone Roses and the Madchester bands be the Rolling Stones, Beatles etc. of today?

I'm not sure we'll be playing 00's in the same way we are currently playing 80's/90's, there just isn't the amount of classics or remotely 'disco' type material being produced these days, and then half of it is recyled 80's/90's.

I can't help thinking music will go full circle and (with any luck) the 00's will be forgotten.

You've only got to look at cack like Vengaboys, Aqua etc. did you play these when they were in the charts? Yet, school proms, 18ths and 21st I'm now getting asked for them.. and stuff like Five, Backstreet boys etc. at weddings.

So there's bound to be tracks that although we don't play now at general parties now, they'll be asked for in the future. A good reason to keep up to date with music, IMO.

i think todays music is mostly forgetable, and won't stand the test of time, just as the modern chart song has lost its chart life length, but as said earlier in this thread there are always going to be certain songs that will stand the test of time and these will be the playlist tracks listed under 2000's, valerie, i dont feel like dancing, rehab etc but im not sure about my humps....lol

So the playlist from the 50s and 60s will shrink to just the cheese of the crop (:o), and then slowly it will be the turn of the 70s, and so on....

"my" turn will always be "monster".
Why? because I spent hours and hours (over 200) firstaiding / li***uarding on Weymouth beach.. and so was listening to radio 1 alot.. and that was the song that was played... about every hour.

When I started dj'ing in the 60's every family party would require some Big Band stuff and rock n roll and ballroom dancing. Nostalgia moves onward relentlessly and the most popular genre now so far as I can see is 80's.
