Laptop Security

Dont know if this has already been covered but are you ever worried about when you go to the toilet and you leave your laptop unattended?

The possibilites of someone trying to steal it are endless, As i have just moved from a desktop pc to a laptop i have orderd the following:

Basically this will be wrapped around a section of my ultimax stand and then into the laptop so you cannot remove the laptop from the stand without the key,
A key will be kept on my car keys at all times and a spair will be in the car just incase lol.

Anyway hope this helps you guys who use laptops.

Yup, the whole room notices! Something to do with the sudden cut in sound and possible accompanying buzzing and bangs on the PA.

Although the punters may not realise it is been stolen, just them looking round should be enough to make most theives run empty handed.

That's my theory anyway!

yeah i have been using them for a while too as my dad uses them on the road in his car for his toughbook,
The thieves would need abit of force to break the plastic what the metal secure device slots into and also after damaging the laptop suspicions rise when they try and re-sell it.

Yup indeed.
That's if they are re-selling it and not using it for personal gain though i guess.
At the end of the day it is all about making us feel better about leaving things.

Also I don't think my insurance covers me if I leave it unattended.. but there are always two of us.. so that isn't a problem :)

my laptop sits on my desk, and only my wife could get into the office whilst i was in the tioilet.
i trust her enough to run that risk.

I don't know if you can get it still but there was a piece of sotware that was installed on your laptop. If you remove the power cable the laptop will make a horrible noise though the laptop speakers and through the headphone jack port.

There is no way to get rid ot the sound unless you take out the battery. Just my 3p

Anyway...

I'm personally not too worried about the theft of the laptop when setup more when being transported or being setup but there is always 2 of us anyway.

But i work with the lock you have purchased and they are very good. pretty much the best you can get. We use loads of them at work.

I've got Kensington locks too, but they're hardly ever used because the laptops NEVER go out of sight :)
