View Full Version : Acme Impossibled or Miracled?.......

Im looking at upgrading the centre part of my lighting rig (currently an Abstract Twister 4 250w) to something using LED, as i want a change, and im fed up with the bulbs in the Twister blowing nearly every gig.
So far ive narrowed it down to two lights, both from Acme,
The Impossibled,
The Miracled.

I have seen various video's of them in action on youtube, but still can't make my mind up on which one

The Miracled seems the perfect size, but only gives a limited light display height wise (width spread is great), whereas the Impossibled looks huge, but gives a great beam spread in all directions.

Has anyone got any experience in using these, and if so which one would you recommend?

Cheers,
Scott.

I have the impossibled. If you are a light which can cover a large area then this is the light for you.

I've got the American DJ version the REVO 3 and think it's great.

For the £20 or so difference in price I think you'd regret not going the full hog and getting the Impossibled

ImpossiabLED. wins hands down.

The impossiabLED is made to be a centre effect but the MiracLED is not as its smaller with less LED's and a smaller effect.

Cheers for that.
If it wasn't for the fact the Impossibled would be hanging in front of where i would be standing, then i'd snap it up!
It is rather large isn't it?

How does the Impossibled look in a room, thats not that dark? (still got their 'off dancefloor' lights on)?

The unit is alot larger than many other LED effects on the market but i feel the effect is well worth the extra size as this unit has been able to completely fill about 99% of the dance floors I've used it on. the coverage this unit offers is fantastic and can be run alone with no other lighting effects easily.

I have mine mounted in the centre of my deck stands lighting bar but i have the unit mounted on top of the bar which means its out of everybody's way:)

I mostly use mine dead-centre too, but in a situation where this would obscure my view I have been known to mount it off to one side on its own tripod to get more height.

Or depending what you use to hang your lights on you could hang the unit above to give you more room and flexibility:cool:

Here's a vid clip --> HERE (www.slingshot.uk.com/fd/photos/fdr_lights_feb08.wmv) <-- where I have mine (Chauvet Vue III) on the floor pointing up - which is good if you are on a stage / riser etc.

Go for the Impossibled, I find it's very versitile, on the gantry as a whole dancefloor filler, on the floor fired up above the dancefloor or firing up behind the show as a backdrop, great on a light wall - really stunning!

Just wondered are you manually controlling those effects. just i noticed ImpossibLED was the same colour as the other unit on the far side of the bottom picture. If so how are you controlling them?

Think if memory serves me right you've got the wrong end of the stick.
the REVO3 is the same as the ImpossiabLED but the only difference being it doesn't contain any white LED's where the ImpossiabLED does.

Anyone else confirm this?

Yeah, DMX controlled everything. I've programmed one sequence where the ImpossibLED and I-Moves are colour matched (the effect on the far side is one of the I-moves hitting one of the Mirrorballs).

Freestyler software and a DMX interface on dedicated laptop.

I can personally confirm this fact as ive just come off the American DJ website;)
It has red, green, blue and white LED's.

I have also just confirmed that the ImpossibLED has the same from this quoted on Prolight UK's website....
'LED's: R: 140 G: 105, B: 84, W: 63 (total 392)'

It must be exactly the same light, apart from the REVO3 looks better externally.

I used my new Miracled tonight and its a great effect, very clear, active, controllable (with Ca8). I had lots of people looking at the efect it was producing as it looks different.
Its not a center light though. I found I had to choose if it was to cover the dancefloor or walls, it wont do both. I chose to have it over head height onto the back wall and it was stunning. i kept looking at it and forgetting to mix the next song (oops).
I may considor hooking up another under it as this would be very good and give just the right area cover.

ps I too didnt go for the Impossibled due to its size!

As much as i love the unit i think it's pointless using it with a CA-8 as the only real thing you can do with it is strobe and change programs. but that's my own opinion. I'm sure others say differently.

You won't be disappointed though:)

Or keep it in 'standby' mode, before revealing it later on in the night;)
Also, i had it to change the inbuilt programs as some of the ones it produces, ive heard can be a bit samey?
.....we'll see :D

It was hard enough trying to locate one, as everyone seems to be out of stock at the minute.
I had ordered one yesterday, but was awoken this morning by a phonecall to be told that their website wasn't updated yesterday and they were out of stock.
I tried various other places until finding out that 'Hard To Find Records' in Birmingham had 5 left in stock, and that they would price match what to what i got at the original supplier.

But surely that's all you'd do anyway without the CA8? Even with full DMX you're going to struggle to get anything fancier than the built-in programs unless you're colour-matching to other effects.

Most times my ImpossibLED is so high up, facing the dancefloor, that I can't see the LED readout anyway, so the CA8 is great for skipping through to a relevant program.

I don't see the point in choosing which programs it uses just let it do its own thing. That's what its been designed for;)

So lets say you are using the effect at a wedding for a slow dance. Would you want the light to be wizzing about, flashing all the time or would you want it too be slow and calm????

I think the ca-8 is a great bit of kit. When i know the song will go quite for a few seconds I cut all the lights out and when the music starts again I brign on the lights again. Looks really good and I have have comments on how good my light show was. :)

I have the American dj Revo3.
It has the exact same lights and colours as the Impossibled, but i think the build quality is better.
The Revo 3 has a power in socket and a power out socket, so you can daisy chain the power lead to another light if you need to.
I also have the Acme Marveled, this has a slightly different light show, but it covers a smaller area, i think that is why it is cheaper.:)

I know this is a bit late for the OP, but for anyone else who finds this thread later on...

I've got both (in fact I've got 2 Miracleds). The Impossibled's beams are brighter and it has a bigger coverage, so it makes a good centrepiece effect on its own. The Miracleds look superb in multiples (as i say, I have 2), and the tighter coverage actually helps in that they can be aimed carefully for a nice "designed" look. There's a video (by Phase One) on YouTube of 4 of them running together - very impressive.

I tend to use the Impossibled as a projected effect on the dancefloor or ceiling during any type of event, and I typically use the Miracleds as beam effects when smoke is allowed.

Both are good, and each has its strong points. I feel as though the effect from the Impossibled is a bit more "retro", where the Miracled looks more up to date, but maybe that's just me. Either way, they both have their place and both look very good, and you can't go wrong for the money.

Well I guess this all depends on what lights you use and how much room you have to take with you. I used it at one of my wedding on a slow effect and I thought it looked rather good. Slow song with slow Impossibled and the roadie on the dmx controller with the par cans fading colours.

I DMX my ImpossibLED and have 'static' and 'slow' sequences for warm-up and 1st dances.

It takes a bit of time to programme them but you can get some great effects, fade from one pattern to another, dim out and back in to another colour, slow chases.....the possiblities are endless!

You can also tell it to go back to stand alone 'Sound-to-Light' mode whilst still under DMX control so you loose none of the great inbuilt programmes! :approve:

There is no slow programs built in on the sound to light show but I'm sure if you created your own shows via DMX you could get some stunning slow effects / programs.

Its an excellent effect.

Not quite sure why your bulbs are blowing so often, I never have any trouble with mine.

Could be:
1/ Fan not keeping lamp cool.
2/ Mechanical shock to the bulbs in transit or setting up/ taking down.
3/ Cheap and nasty bulbs.

I posted this problem up in another thread, and its not just the Twister 4, but my Gladiator Revolutions too.
The fans are always kept clean, and un-obstructed, i use Osram bulbs, and they are treated like royalty to/from the event.
I was told the bulb holder/connector, but as the fit is still tight, i can't see how it would cause probs.
I get literally 1 gig from 1 bulb!

This is why im looking at LED lighting.

I got my USB DMX 'thingy' from maplins, about £60. The freestyler software is free (just give a £5 donation or whatever). http://www.freestylerdmx.be/

You can download the programme and choose 'virtual interface'. This means you can have a play around with the programme before you get the USB - DMX 'thingy' or 'interface' :approve:

Also check this for info relating to DMX: http://www.thedmxwiki.com/

It takes a bit of playing around with but I just got stuck in and within an hour or two I was getting to grips with it and making lights move. You can also go on to the freestyler forum and get advice and fixture files for most DMX lights.

(fixture files are what you need to add a certain light to the programme before you can programme it, the software comes with the most popular fix. files)

They also supply a programme for making your own fixture files, I made my own for the impossibled because it wasn't available at the time, sure it is now. Once you have created a fix. file you can share it with others through the forum. :)

(Oops, that reminds me I have to PM mark@pegasus to give him a lesson on using freestyler!)

I use FreeStyler too. I find the simplest way is to create a load of sequences that do what you want, then add them all to a "Cue" window and control them from there.

You can run multiple sequences on top of each other too, for the same fixtures, so you can have various sequences for movement, some for colours, some for gobos, etc, and then choose to combine them as appropriate. It takes a bit of work but gives loads of variation to your lightshow.

Once you get your head round it it's a great bit of software.

If you can solder then you can build it. It comes as a pcb, a load of components and a case.

The PCB has all the components printed on it so it's 'electronics-by-numbers', just match up the components to the printed pcb and solder it all up - easy!

Definitely. It's worth sticking at it - once it "clicks" in your head it's much easier than you might think at first.

The CA8 will be fine for it. Show 3 is the less manic of the 12 in-built shows, show 1 is a combination of all the shows. On the CA8 press the bottom button once to go into show select mode, then press the middle button to cycle through the shows. You'll need to look at the back of the ImpossibLED to see the show selection on the LED. Have fun. :)

Too much like hard work..lol. Don't any other manufacturers make them pre-made?

Never used one of these but it looks good!
