Anyone have anything more than the standard locks/alarm/immobiliser that are on most vans?

I'm looking at getting something more for the side loading door and have been looking at slam locks.

Anyone got any experience in this?

No experience, sorry. Although I'd be interested to hear from those that do.

My van is parked on the main street outside my house. Apart from the alarm and immobiliser, I have a CCTV camera and security light aimed towards it to deter vandals.

I think it may be a bit extream but on my dad's work vans 90% of them have a cage installed. So when you open the main door you then have to open a nother door to load up. It's a good idea as the theif would need some kind of tool to cut the steel but then again its extra weight. Its not a box in a box if you get me, just extra protection at the opening of the van like back door and side door.

I would of thought a thatcham approved alarm and immobiliser and the slam locks would be ok but then again thats just my opinion.

I had deadlocks on a Transit. They were a bit like those bolts you fit to double doors that use a spined key to lock, but instead used central locking motors to push the bolts accross. They were connected in to the existing central locking system so you didn't need to know they were there, they just got on with the job.

The only thing was that there has to be a secret overide incase the keyfob stopped working, as there was no way the doors were opening otherwise.

It is really easy to fit them took me about 2 hours to do both. It comes with written and picture instructions

I'm not practical and don't want to be making holes in doors either!

Mine's exRoyal Mail, and came fitted with Padlock fittings you would need a thermic lance to cut through in a couple of hours.;) :D

I'm not sufficiently sober, or technologically advanced to post a link, but it's a fitting which bolts to the door, has a hood over it, and stops anyone using bolt croppers to cut through your padlock which secures the van doors. ( I removed mine, they're a pain in the rear when you open the doors more than twice a day!;)

I think the end result would suit you, but I think they are best factory fitted. They really need to have captive nuts in the pillars, they allow you to fit very high grade padlocks, and completely hide the workings from anyone with a pair of bolt croppers. They are a very big hasp and staple.

After having talked to a few van owners and a few security companies, I am probably going for extra deadlocks as I wanted something that didn't say "look at the extra security, there must be something worth nicking in here!" (If you know what I mean)

I remember saying exactly the same thing once about garage doors with visible extra security...only to be told by someone that I was talking complete rubbish!

There's a great deal of difference between a van which will be parked in a lot of difference places and a garage which is joined to my house.

I haven't told anyone anything and do you really suppose that a person reading this will think that a van is worth nicking if there is extra security on it?

My company is registered at companies house, so if people want to find me they will.

I have appropriate security for my premisis and van and also insurance.

Just about anyone who has their company name on the internet will be traceable. Welcome to the real world.

Security is great but it needs to be subtle as well as tough. The most determine will get in whatever.

As long as you have satisfied your insurance underwriting thats all that matters.

Anyone with a ltd company legally has to post the address on everything including websites.

I think putting your availability on websites etc. does not help as any thief will know when to baseball bat you when you get home knackered from a gig. :)

I had those on my last van, well the Master branded ones. I think they work quite well. After 2 years it did start getting rusty though so I replaced the whole thing withe the same.

I've got key operated deadlocks and armour plates on my new van though as I prefer how they look.
