Anyone here involved with "proper" event management?
I've been toying with the idea of dumping the day job for more years than I care to remember, and with a possible redundancy opportunity looming I might just have the excuse.
By trade I'm a qualified project manager and on the side have run my own disco business for 24 years, more recently expanding the scope of my offering to include planning meetings, venue consultations, some additional services (eg. AV hire/setup) outside "just disco".
I'm aware of all the general activities involved in "proper" event management and am comfortable with my own organisational abilities, but am obviously looking for input from folks who do this already. In particular, would it be advantageous to get a qualification (I'm talking diploma here, not enough time for a degree) or would that be as useless as my "O" level Geography? I could maybe get the cost of this covered under outplacement.
Any thoughts, comments, suggestions, people to talk to would be much appreciated :o :)
