Tonight - Potentially one of the best so far!

Hi all,

Tonight is the party with the fantastic playlist that I mentioned the other day on here...it's predominantly Old Skool Indie, New Indie and some Ska and Retro, really looking forward to it. If I remember, I will take the camera and get some pictures.

One downer though.... Went to the doctors yesterday morning as I have been aching down one side for the past 2 days. Thought it was the hayfever coming on earlier than usual but it turns out it's the early symptoms of shingles...aargghh. Never had it before and I feel really under the weather today.

Thing is, tonight is potentially one of the best parties I am going to do this year with 100 people all into what I'll be doing (they are the ones that have requested the tunes afterall) so there is NO way I am missing this no matter how bad I feel. It's not contagious so I am told as the rashes haven't surfaced because the doctor tells me that we will catch it all before it comes out, my nervous system is pretty knackered at the moment though.

Morning all, well apart from feeling very ill last night, it was a pleasure to DJ for such a good crowd. Not sure if it was the fact that I don't feel great or what but I felt really knackered after last nights function. From the very beginning at 7.30pm when there were only around 20 people there, they started dancing and by 8.30pm when most of the guests were there, it was pretty full on until midnight.

Once again I took backup CD's and players but left them in the van and didn't have any hiccups during the evening whatsoever. Also, once again I got another booking on the night from a guy who had travelled down from the midlands. He said that he didn't know DJ's like me existed because of the music I was playing. I think he was really impressed by the Ska set I did.

Anyway, before I go on...and on and on (lol) I have to apologise for the pictures. I took some early on just to show the set up and then totally forgot as I was getting well into what I was doing. I'm not great at taking them anyway and can never get the settings right so I only got one photo of when the night was in full swing. You can't see how good the lights looked but believe me, it looked really good in there and there was a wide spread.

Every song on the playlist (so I found out during the evening), was at least one request from each guest. When I played the Kaiser Chiefs the place went mad...When I played The Prodigy it went up a notch or two but the best moment of the night was when I paused for 2 seconds (on purpose) and everyone looked up at me and I said over the mic.. "ladies and gentlemen, I give you one of the best songs ever made..." and played 'Night boat to Cairo'.. You had to see it to believe it. Every single person in the venue was on the dancefloor, even the bar staff were dancing and the doorman came in and shook my hand as it was playing. Everyone applauded when it had finished and I went into Toots & The Maytals - '54 46 was my number'.

What with it being the (supposedly) summer and it still being light outside until around 9.00pm, you didn't really get the whole vibe of the lights etc until it got dark but that didn't bother the guests at all. They were a great crowd and all up for it. Last songs of the night were ACDC - 'Whole lotta Rosie' and Queen - 'Don't stop me now'. As the last notes of Queen were fading out and I put the house lights up, people stood on the dancefloor clapping and screaming "More! More!" - The barstaff signalled to me that one more was ok so I played ACDC - 'Back in Black' and it finished the night off well.

Sounds great, Gary! I'd have loved to see the Madness bit - I actually can't think of another band that have a dancefloor moving so much! :thumbs_up:
