That's about as credible as those parents that sued Judas Priest for their kids attempting (and in one case succeeding at) suicide. Yeah, the fact that the kids were drunk, stoned and both suffering abuse and/or neglect at the hands of (particularly) step-parents has been conveniently overlooked, oh, and there was a loaded gun in the house in an unlocked wardrobe.

Music can do a lot of things but it won't cause people to do things they aren't already inclined to do. Yes, hip-hop culture gives disaffected youth a pattern to emulate, but so does EMO, and so did punk.

I listen to hip-hop and death metal amongst many other things - by rights I should be popping caps in people's domes (LL Cool J, '14 Shots to the Dome',1993) and then eating or mutliating them (Cannibal Corpse 'Hammer-Smashed Face', 1993). Note that both cited albums/EPs have been around for fifteen years and we're talking about the effect of music now... oops.

I think hip-hop and rap/grime are to blame for some of the rise in gun/knife culture. The lyrics in most of the songs are easilly available to buy at any age and something should be done to stop it.

I dont think R&B/Garage has anything to do with it, i think that R&B is layed back compared to hip-hop etc and garage is mainly underground and not involving any sort of lyrics such as the other genres.

I am referring to the swearing and some of the content in not only some hip hop, but rap & r&b as well.

These artists are role models for many young people, and it's about time they started setting a better example and having more respect for the kids who buy their music & look up to them.

indeed alan but .........and imo its a huge but .............. the tracks you mention are not widely note i say widely played on popular commercial radio stations throughout the day whereas some other hip hop based tracks are used in this way.

The increase in knife crime has been attributed to immigrants from certain areas of the Middle East and Indian sub-continent where carrying a knife is the norm for all adult males. Shall we blame Bhangra for knife-crime? Or Sufi-Qawwali?

Right again Rob. I also think that compared to years ago the use of the videos that go with these songs makes the message/identity much stronger.
