Trussing...

Can anyone recommend a company that sells trussing?. I'm basically looking for some sturdy box/rectangle shape trussing that'll be be used vertically with a moving head placed on the top.

If I'm completely honest I don't like buying from Thomann. I prefer to use a company that I can contact by phone to discuss my requirements. The telephone number on their site doesn't work for me (it hasn't the last five times I've tried to ring them anyway). Very frustrating.

Saturday we did a big charity ball and had some MAC250 Entour movers mounted on some triangular turss vertically. The guys we got the truss off for this just had some big steel heavy plates welded up for the truss to drop onto and it did look well and there was hardley and movement in it at all.
Also we just used 2m pieces of truss to elevate the movers, Why not try AC Lighting they are based in Leeds or maybe Astrolite directly they make really light trussing which is very good for mobile.

I can't remember the link but I know Jamie will be able to give it to you. There is a good second hand company who sell a lot of trussing - (i think Jamie got is from there) which would be ideal for your needs - depending on what size you are thinking of though.

The main problem I think you would have is securing it on top.. might be a bit top heavy unless the trussing is big enough. Make sure the base is good enough to support it too - some of the ones I have seen have been unstable and worrying.

yes.. the thing steve is on about is what you want with regards to the base plates. As long as they are big and sturdy enough to make sure there is no movement.

The stability issue is my biggest concern. I looked on Terralecs site originally but they don't stock wider base plates. Ideally I'll need base plates that are least double the width of the trussing to give me the kind of stability the units will need. The new movers are quite heavy so the trussing and base has to be very secure.

Your best bet would be to get the trussing and then take it to a local metal fabricator and have some seriously heavy duty bass plates made up what have that extra bit of weight and strengh just for peace of mind and the extra boost on safety.

I think you may be right, it certainly seems the safest option.

Now...I just need to find some suitable trussing. :o

Still no joy finding suitable trussing. :(

I contact terralec but none of their trussing is wide enough, on top of that they wanted 372 quid for EACH heavy duty base plate. :eek:

Plenty of US companies selling what I need. Come on UK...get with the programme! :d

This is also something i'm looking at doing in the next month, having four stands, two at about 2m and two at about 1.5m, having a moving head on top and 2 Blockbusters 6's mounted down each one. My uncle runs a company that employs a welder, and stocks many types of metals. Recently he built my lectern from scratch (see below), so i'm pretty sure he can meet my new challenge :D:D

I'm at my wits end with this whole idea. I managed to get hold of a contact number for thomann and spent an hour on the phone with them discussing different ideas, but in the end started back at square one. I've been to a local metal engineers to discuss different solutions but all are crazy prices, and the end result will be to heavy for mobile work.

Disappointed. :(
