I imagine they are using a glorified version of this; they properly have a sound monitor with an external display.
The problem is are you trying to compare your set up sound level with theirs?
If so you don’t know were the sound level is being measured from and the acoustics of the room.

It will be where abouts the DJ is due the to 85db law.

and if we get one like in the vid then it can clearly be seen by the DJ/MC or Lighting controller.

The link you gave me. Does it mean i can plug in a LCD screen and read out from there?

Unfortunately things are never that simple, you wont be able to just plug in a screen.
The one in the video is probably custom made, I haven as yet been able to find one that has that sort of screen.
Normally these things are self contained.

The closest thing I have found is this:

You can also get an optional 5m-microphone extension cable for it.

Darren showed me one of them last week.

He say when the venue complain he sends his roadie out and they then shut up. I will definitely get one soon :)

Well worth it in my opinion.

With regard to the law, employers have to supply ear protection if the sound levels will be over 85db. It doesn't affect people at the venue not working.

As an addition to this thread I was working with an Elton john tribute on Friday and the lighting desk which I was operating was right beside the speaker stack and the guitarist recommended getting some Alpine ear plugs anybody here use them or have opinions on using ear plugs

They are not bad at all for the price, but mine kept falling out when I was using my headphones (here comes a rubbish joke from Rob ), so I don't really use them anymore. I have a friend who plays bass in a rock band who uses the exact same ones - and he raves about them! He says the difference after a practice session is brilliant, although he doesn't always use them when playing live. I really should invest in some proper custom moulded plugs, but they don't come cheap, do they? :(
