Yes, Denon have finally caught up with Numark, the new firmware disables all effects, loops, hot starts and a decent vinyl emulation mode :D :sofa:

The new update offers:

-Added: Windows Vista support in MIDI mode
-Added: support for new iPod Classic & Nano (gen 6)
-Added: the ability to go back UP the search list from the Title level
-Added: Album sorting by Track ID3 tag
-Added: Folder searching by Player & Keyboard
-Added: “Hot List” Function by player and keyboard
-Added: more Keyboard functions
-Added: USB Format tool, we can now format NTFS drives to FAT32
-Improved other minor bugs listed with the firmware download

I've got a stock list now with serial numbers 'cos it was the same for me before. I still think it's ridiculous that you need a number for a firmware upgrade. It's not like you can use it on anything but the Denon machine, is it!

You stick it on a flash drive and press certain buttons....can't remember what off hand. It will say on he Denon site no doubt.

This is why you can always put your trust into Denon, they don't just take the money and start thinking about making more money out of you (ie. a new product) - they continually work towards improving your product throughout it's initial lifespan.

Just got in from updating this latest bit of firmware and I have to say it is brilliant. It now reads folders, which is very useful for me and the way my music is structured.

The other 'biggie' is the hotlist which you can add songs to on the fly, rather like a waitlist. All good.

I plan to update mine tomorrow. The hotlist is the feature I've been eagerly awaiting. It was the one feature where the D2 had the edge so it's nice to see Denon actually listened and took on board the feedback from it's users.

I also like the update they've made to the Music Manager software. In previous versions creating a new database meant losing all the playlists that were made. Apparently this issue's been resolved. Hope so.

I've updated mine and tested it. Works fine except for a problem with the hotlist. According to the instructions it should be possible to add tracks to the hotlist via the controller or keyboard. Only the keyboard option works for me. Not a major issue as I'd be doing it via the keyboard anyway.

Hot list works fine on mine. Are you doing it correctly???


Select the song you want to add. Press the Playlist button and the + button (pitch bend) together to add the song. When you want to go back to the hot list just press the playlist button, scroll to the hot list and all the songs are there.

That's what I've been doing. Instead of it adding the selected tracks to the hotlist it just goes into playlist mode.

I just tried again another dozen times...it seemed to work the last 5 or 6 times. Must just be my sausage fingers that's the problem. :o :zip:

:lol:......I've taken the tracks the client's want and placed them into a folder with a name on it...then scroll to the said folder and use it as a guide.....so yes you can do it....just make a new folder on you hard drive....

A slight problem I'm having is the new search by folder option. When I added my folders, I didn't use Music Manager, but the unit is recognising my folder structure, which is great.

However, in the 2008 folder there are a load of tunes that are showing up in there but aren't physically in the folder. All a bit strange.

The 2008 folder is arranged thus:

2008 - Pop, pop dance, rock and indie, dance, slow, Urban. Any ideas anyone?

I have the same problem with the Hotlist. If I press the buttons together it just goes straight to the playlist options without adding it.

Im not going to be funny here but if you are not allowed to move the unti from the rack then im sure they aren't going to let you upgrade the firmware.

I have yet to try the folder search. I have just finished re-ripping my collection and im just sorting out the tagging. should have everything reado for tommorow gig.

I did have a go and I do think the hotlist feature is handy. Tried it a few times and it does come in handy.

Also the ipod 6th generation is handy aswell as I have the ipod classic to which I have all of my music on there aswell.


Can anyone think what would be a good idea to have on the next update???

For me it would be the platter. At the SEDA show Denon did say that the platter has had improvements but I can't see/feel it. For me the big one would be that if you take your finger it starts up super quick. There is still a bit of a delay. :(

To be fair, Gary, that's been trying to help me pinpoint the problem has been helpful so far. I just found it a little strange that no-one reportedly has mentioned this type of problem on any of the forums, yet there's three on this forum alone that have experienced this.

The 'add to hotlist' function is the least of my problems with the Denon at the minute.....

I'm having problems with playlists being corrupted anytime I add new songs and update the database.

I've posted the following on the Denon website. Still no reply


*Created new database
*Added playlists (Which takes forever)
....Everything fine.

*Shut down MM and re-opend MM...playlists fine.

*Added new tracks to my music folder
*Update playlist

Since updating database the previous playlists have all screwed up.

This is the same process I went through yesterday, althjough it was different files I added yesterday so that's not the problem. The problem definitely seems to lie in the "update database" procedure.


This has caused me no end of trouble and time. It's since been suggested that I add folders via the database instead of adding a music folder to the HDD and updating database. I haven't tried that yet but I still shouldn't be experiencing the kind of errors I'm getting.

Last night , what a drama. Took ages to load tracks and lots of pressing enter on the keyboard then it would go "chicken oriental" and scroll up and down and not select stuff :mad:

It did a bit of "Norman Collier" at one stage which was not apprieciated and during Bobby Brown it just dropped it totaly. Glad the dance floor wasn't packed and I didn't get the death stare off the punters, MUCH:eek:

After my HD dramas the other week I now carry more HD's than PC world :D
So after a few swaps around it started to behave slightly.........then the keyboard went and died on me :mad: so the rest of the night it was scrolly finger time, oh joy!

Anyone still having a few teething problems with the 1300 update?

Can I load the old version back on as it was fine with that one?

Yep, I'm still having problems with the latest firmware upgrade and latest Denon Music Manager.

You can safely load the old firmware back onto the machine. I considered it....but I really like the hotlist addition to the firmware. I'm going to delete the new music manager though and install the old one.

I tried to get some answers to my problems on the Denon forum...which have been ignored thus far.

I own both the cortex and the denon, and giving the choice, I'd rather have a faulty Denon than a working Cortex. :P :d

I agree, Silvio is usually helpful. I've posted it on the Denon forum, where he's active....but no reply yet. Hopefully I'll hear from him soon.

I think after all this trouble I will be downgrading to the v1200. I need somthing that I can trust and not somthing that jumps when selecting songs and having to press the enter key a few times to select the song. :(

This will be done somthing this week after I sort out the Mackie issue.

In fact I have down graded to the 1200 version and have for the last hour been testing it out.

The track that froze on saturday is now fine and shock horror my keyboard works again :eek: Which is really annoying as got one off ebay last night :mad: Nevermind more back up kit then :D

So in essence i've lost the "hotlist" function but now have got the old faithful back again and it should now behave itself ;)

In all seriousness, this is the first problem I've heard of the HD2500, which is all the more surprising that they got it wrong. I suspect the terrible music manager software has a large part to play - I absolutely detest that software!

In saying that, there's more Cortex problem threads than porn on the net these days though :p

I defraged my dj hard drive and its really quick in searching for songs on the pc now. I'g going to plug it in the denon shortly with the v1300 firmware and see what happens. If then this works fine then I guess I need to defrag the hard drive on a regular basis.

I'm quite happy with my Denon thank you very much. It does the job very well and it can read songs that are not id3 tagged correctly, like some play out system. :rolleyes: ;) :D

Seriously, unless I'm missing something, the Cortex has no problem reading songs with incorrect tags, it always plays them in my limited experience, just that "Steamy Windows" may have sounded a lot like " Baker Street" :eek: :D :D
I still have a lot of editing to do! :( :(

I think mainly they are either people who cant tag properly or machine factory faults from the beginning--those of us who kicked off with the machine ok and a hard drive of properly tagged files have not had problems.

I havent bothered for 18 months-- has not been necessary with the Cortex.

Yet another problem I've noticed with my Denon is the platter. When I first purchased it there was an instant start/stop when the platter was pressed and released. Now there is a distinct delay (approx half a second) on both the left and right platter. It may not seem like a big delay but it's bugging me. :/

I have this problem aswell. I did talk to Denon at a Seda show and they did say that it was better. :confused: Some how I dont think so.



Ok, so I defraged my hard drive and now it works wonders on the Denon. Works really fast. I do defrag my hard drive but I guess this is going to have to be a regular thing then.

Still not happy with the mackie. :mad: :bang: . Anyway, thats a different thread.
