Bass bin advice please

Hi guys.
I want to add a bass bin to my system, if i add just one passive bass bin that has a cross over buillt in, how does this affect the amp.
If i conect the speaker wire from one chanel on the amp to the bass bin in socket, then a speaker wire from the bass bin out socket into one of the tops speaker,does this make one side of the amp run harder than the other.
Or is this not the right way to run just one bass bin.

Basically it'll half the ohms on the side that you have the bin & top.
Saying that, if it has a x-over built in (i.e an IN & an OUT socket) I think it'll be ok. My Class-D has this on the bass bin enabling me to chain 3 together on each side yet still only halfing the ohmage (which is ok as the amp can easily handle it :D )

Hope this helps for now although this thread could start getting very complicated :eek: . There are plenty of old threads with this info - it might be worth doing a search.

Thanks for the world's most baffling explanation there Justin! Gaza, if you are convinced you will ever only need one, go for powered ( active ) . It's easier and better. If you think you may like two, and that powered subs are heavy
( Justin does ;) ;) :D :D ) get a pair of subs of whatever brand you fancy, and if poss same impedance as your tops . Feed amp into main input of subs, and tops from HI out on subs. If you have 8ohm tops and 8ohm subs linked thus, the amp will see 8ohms per side.
That's the two best options in my humble opinion, I'll just get behind this sofa here until most of the bullets have stopped flying! :sofa:

If you've got 8ohm subs and 8ohm tops, and you plug the tops into the hi out sockets on the subs, you'll still have 8ohm speakers, not four!

You can of course subs and tops in parallel, and get 4ohms, but you're not filtering frequencies at all, so not the best scenario. You might as well run an extra pair of full range instead.
It is indeed possible and permissible to run three speakers passive, but not good practice. If you want three, go active sub, you'll gain power.
