The attraction of the doorway !!

Hi........ why is it that people congregate in the doorway of a venue. And, although they can see you are carrying speakers etc refuse to get out of the way. Often another person next to them will say "Move out the way the band
!!!!!!!! are trying to get through". By the time you get there again they are once more in the way.After uttering the words " excuse me please " for the 80th time they finally move out of the way having got the message. GOT THE MESSAGE ?? No way, for as you approach with the next item they are once again in the way. Then the whole process starts again when packing up the equipment. Despite having the whole venue to congegrate and chat only the doorway will do. Any theories ?:confused:

I guess lots of people feel obliged to attend weddings etc. and therefore feel imprisoned until such time as they feel it's acceptable to leave... so there they stand, wistfully, looking out at freedom?

At the end of the night they're usually waiting for their taxi/lift and think that keeping watch will make it arrive quicker :p

What I like is when you say excuse me and they reply 'oh, sorry I didn't realise', but are stood in the same place when you return and say 'oh, sorry i didn't realise'.

I notice a lot of people find there location points throughout the evening and they stay there thought the entire evening, usually against a supportive pillar.:D

I think you will find the people against the doorways are unemployed doormen, just showing you they still have the necessary skills required and they won't leave you in the lurk when the gig is over ;) :D

I rarely have this problem repeating as my speaker cabinets are much stronger than peoples knees! It's so easy to "accidently" whack someones legs when you're carrying your speakers out to the van. I always say "Sorry, mate! Bit of a tight squeeze getting through!" and they usually move when they see me coming back!

I think that by the third time if wheels go over peoples feet or a box knocks them they have had more than enough warnings!

DJ Sheppy, you are spot on, as this is one of those things which really annoys me...especially at the end of the night when I'm tired & dripping with sweat through packing down & carrying out the gear.

It happened to me last night, with people standing & chatting right in front of the fire door I was trying to carry me gear out of.

I've come to the conclusion that it's just ignorance, and the people who do this clearly don't have more than a couple of brain cells between them.

How much common sense does it take to work out the DJ is carrying out his gear, you are standing in front of the door he needs to get out of, and it might be a good idea if you move?

As was the case last night, pushing a 110kg bass cabinet, stacked up with flightcases towards them seems to do the trick :D

Speakers which are carried over the shoulder often encourage the parting of the punters. ;) :D

My new larger flat bed trolley may also help, if driven fast enough. :D

Some venues do have speed restrictions for trolley driving speeds, you might find you have a few points on your license for speeding in a built up area :P
