View Full Version : I Pleased The Bar Staff

In response to "I upset the bar staff" here on the IoW we do things differently :D
Last Friday's venue is one which, for some reason (possibly because it's a cheap community hall type place frequented mostly by pikeys in my experience) I've only played a few times since coming to the island. However it's one of the largest venues here so occasionally get a big party, such as Friday's joint 40th.
Strangely though my previous gig at said venue was about 3 weeks ago.
Anyhoo, arrive a bit earlier than planned and there's no-one around, so go hunting for the caretaker. Eventually wandered into the kitchen area 'cos I could hear chopping, and a middle-aged woman looked up, pointed at me and said "oooooooh!" with a big smile of recognition on her face, "are you playing here tonight?". To which the reply was 'yes' and a puzzled look because I didn't recognise her. "Well we're in for a great night then" and she starts boogieing (sp?) round the kitchen.
:p
Apparently later on she was singing my praises to the party hosts when they arrived as well!
That's it really. Just wanted to counteract the negative thread with a positive one :D

Totally off topic, but did you know that the IOW is England's smallest county for half the year?

Does anything negative EVER happen to you? Do you walk on water at gigs as part of the cabaret? I'm just asking.:p :p :p

I'm a positive person who likes to see the good things in life instead of finding fault in everything. Same venue I'm describing above has the most miserable caretaker you can imagine. As soon as folks start leaving he's folding up tables and stacking chairs... at 11pm  But did I volunteer that?
If you click my forum name, and then "Find more posts by VectisVibe" you'll see that bad things happen here too :o

Yes, coz I watch QI as well! Other half of the year the tides out which makes it bigger than Rutland.

Sneaky! ;) As an ex-postman of 11 years service I've seen a few tricks like this!
I have a similar situation at the Rowing Club in Durham. The first gig we did was a really good show. We left some business cards and we've had a fair few bookings since then. Apparently one of the staff always tells people they're in for a good time when they book us. You just can't buy advertising like that.

I wish I could... rather than shelling out excessive amounts of hard-earned just to get to the North Island :o

You are such a hypocrite. You make a nasty comment to VV and put smileys after it to make it like a joke. Pathetic.

Not sure where "out in the sticks" is but it's obviously a reasonable distance from me; I'm honoured to be viewed as a threat :p

That's nothing. I live in Barnet, which is a London Borough, in the county of Hertfordshire with an EN postcode, which is Enfield, which is in Middlesex, which doesn't officially exist as a county.

I have a similar problem.
I live in Worcester Park, and pay my comminuty charge to the London Borough of Sutton, except Sutton isn't in London...it's actually in Surrey (according to its address, anyway).
Apart from that, I have a London phone number, but a Surrey address.

If it HAD kept raining you could've annexed Barnett and set yourself up as monarch! It would've taken the various powers that be 21 years to figure out they were missing "revenue". You'd've been like Andorra.
