View Full Version : Why???????????

DJ Sheppy

Why........ is the totally drunk guy with a pint glass spilling everywhere always the one dancing nearest the equipment ?
Why........Do some venues insist on keeping the house lights full on and others have no way of dimming them at all?
Why........ When you have just filled the dance floor with some eighties/or other music does some joker keep coming up with requests totally out of context?
Why........ Do some people come up and ask " Got any decent music ?". Then when you ask what they would like stand there for ages huffing and puffing and then saying..... " you know DECENT music, huh call yourself a DJ"
Why......... Is the person who says they are leaving in 5 minutes." so get my request on NOW," still there 2 hours later!! ?
Why......... Having played one more at the end do people come up after you have coiled up all the leads and say " Go on mate, stick one more on "
Why......... Do some people come up and request the very song playing ?
Why......... When you have just put on some backgroud music for the buffet
does some joker always come up and say...... Better get this party pumping then.... Turn it up mate ??!!
Why why why??
Anyone experienced these or have any others?

Were you at my last gig?

My most annoying one at the moment is a more specific version of one of yours.

Floor full, people bopping to standards like Oh what a Night, Wake me up before you go go etc and some under 15 comes up and asks "Can you play Soulja Boy"...yep thats right, the number one floor emptier for anyone aged over 18!

I agree with the all above:)

Why........ When you have just filled the dance floor with some eighties/or other music does some joker keep coming up with requests totally out of context?

That gets on my  also.

You just get in a full swing Motown/Rock 'N' Roll/70's set when someone comes up "hey mate, i want some Drum 'N' Bass....ON NEXT!!!

Let me think about that..... NO!!!! I'm a DJ not you slave you drunken ***

And yes it is VERY annoying but unfortunately comes with the territory. :p :D

"Can you play Now that you've gone?"
"It was the last track I played"
"Oh!!!!! Can you play it again next, I didn't hear it"
"I'll play it later on"
"I'm going in a minute"
"Oh so there's no point me playing it to keep you happy then!"

Dont you just hate that one !! Ha ha

Also..........

i hate when someone comes up and requests a track and you play it a little later. Then about 20 mins after playing, they come back and ask if your going to play it.
You say " i just have ",
They say " ah i was out side having a fag, must have missed it, can you play it again "

Erm.................... nope !!

Why do people insist on using their (supposed) position as the Bride's/Groom's best mate/ex-flat mate/cousin to try and get their request(s) played?

Why do people make requests and then try and make out that it's the Bride's/Groom's favourite song, too? (Yeah, I haven't discussed the music with them before tonight, nonce.)

Because he thinks he got the next Daily Sport Headline....."UFO lands at my mates wedding"....it had flashing lights!

Why........Do some venues insist on keeping the house lights full on and others have no way of dimming them at all?
Make me laugh this one..."It’s my first night tonight and I don’t know where the power points for the lights are?" (I believe her as who would want to work in this dump!)

Why........ When you have just filled the dance floor with some eighties/or other music does some joker keep coming up with requests totally out of context?
...Some one asked for "Sweet Caroline" while "Tears don’t lie" was playing...i’ll play it right at the end...by which time they have gone home! :D

Why........ Do some people come up and ask " Got any decent music ?". Then when you ask what they would like stand there for ages huffing and puffing and then saying..... " you know DECENT music, huh call yourself a DJ"
...or thrust a phone at you...or have you got...err cant remember the name...or it goes something like this....

Why......... Is the person who says they are leaving in 5 minutes." so get my request on NOW," still there 2 hours later!! ?
Say "Please"....:D

Why......... Having played one more at the end do people come up after you have coiled up all the leads and say " Go on mate, stick one more on “
See ya....

Why......... Do some people come up and request the very song playing ?
…or can you play xxxxxxx....i’ve played that....yeah but I was in the toilet and missed it.....

Why......... When you have just put on some backgroud music for the buffet does some joker always come up and say...... Better get this party pumping then.... Turn it up mate ??!!

Chav: "While can you play it from my mates phone then?"

Blimey! I'm gonna have to change my website text. It says "Every function is different..." but, going by these posts, every function seems to be the same (in these respects, anyway!) and it's not just my bad luck getting all the numpties after all!

Sheppy (post #1) we get these situations all the time.

Tony (post #9) - spot on once again!

Ryan (post #2) - I hate that song. It is one of the most dreadful songs I have ever heard and will clear a dancefloor in seconds. But some idiot is always requesting it but, unfortunately 'the cd with that one on got scratched, sorry!' even though I don't use cds now - just 2 laptops!

Spud (post #10) - I get this phone thing all the time. I just say "If you can tell me what it's called and who sang it, I'll be able to look for it". This is almost as bad as the drunks who come up and say "Have you got this one? Dunno what it's called but it goes 'hmm hmmmm hmm ooo la la la'!". I'll name that tune in one (or, rather, in 297!)

Reminds me of the last Wedding--:D :D :D

Very near the end doing Come on Eileen--

FULL FLOOR EXCEPT ONE DRUNK:bang:

Can you play this one?? Woman starts to try and sing the tune above Come on Eileen

Nah--whats it called?

Dunno--goes like this--starts the completely pointless exercise of singing the tune again---slurred of course as drunk!!!!!

NOOOO I dont have that one--

Oh you know it---

Yeah course I do ;)

Sorry were doing the last number now ---byeeee!!!!

why ? do people tap or blow into the microphone before speaking ?
why is there nearly always another 'dj' who know more than you ?
Why do people always come up the wrong side of the stage and clamber over to talk to you ?
Why do people who want the music quieter sit next to your speaker ?

geoffrey

Why do I hit the smoke button on when kids play with the star cloth led’s ?
Why doesn’t the mic work when kids try to scream into it ?
Why does the volume only take 3 mins to go back to normal after a moan ?
Why can’t I find that floor clearing request ?

Tom

With people asking for music, if they are in a nice way then I will play it but if they demand it and want it played right this second then I won't play it at all.

I will not be spoken to like that.

Also, what bugs me is why do people always stay on the stage for a few minutes and look at the gear and me??? I thought you should be on the dance floor or sitting at your table???

Why do people usually call us "Mr DJ"?

How many people in OTHER professions do we usually call (to their face) "Mr Doctor" "Mr Dentist" "Mr Bank Clerk" "Mr Builder" "Mr Vicar" "Mr Actor" "Mr Librarian" etc?

I always give people the mics switched on and ready to go but there's always someone who turns it off then says "Hoi! This is not working!". I've now started to put tape around the karaoke mics covering the switches so they can't be turned off at the mic and just turning them on and off at the mixer.

I've also had people making speeches over the mic but holding at at waist level. I have to run over and physically move the mic closer to their gobs and say "There, that should do it!"

At the end of the day these people are not just drunks but possibly clients too. If they have paid a few quid to get in then they need treating with respect.

We arent being paid to play what we like or to enjoy ourselves, we are their for a customer and do as we are told.

If the customer comes up in the middle of the night with everyone dancing and asks for the funeral march then that is what you play.

Its always worth treating drunks with repsect coz after all they arent the one with thousands of pounds of vulnerable equipment on the stage.
The quickest way to lose your teeth is to start arguing with a drunk !

No..
We are also employed for our skill of being able to judge the dance floor and for our knowledge music.
I for one do not always slip in requests made because it will clear the floor.. and most of the time if I decide not to play a request.. they go away and forget anyway.
If they come back again I will consider it more strongly as they obviously really do want it..
But I am not going to jepadize everyone elses enjoyment because some stupid punter wants a non - suitable song.

Yes this one always makes me chuckle. No matter how often you tell them to hold it closer they insist on the 12 inch gap.
