I use one of these for speeches, greetings etc. It sounds clear and bright, has good feedback rejection & a good range (just what you need for this type of work). About £70:

It's quite amazing how far this technology has gone in a very short time.

A bit of advice though. Go for UHF over VHF every time and you won't be disappointed.

Me too! Use these for karaoke. Good idea is to use rechargeable batteries cos mine seem to eat normal batteries for breakfast!

Although it's not in the "cheap" range, it is the best radio mic I've ever used but I let very few people use it on the karaoke. Certainly wouldn't give it to the drunken numpties! :)

Yep, I had a Beyma Wireless, cost £380.00, some kid droped it and cost me £120 to get a new cartridge so now the £70 thomann jobby is just the ticket!

I use JTS.

If its for speeches at Weddings and Parties NOT karaoke I would go for something like this---although it only has one channel--so if another DJ or band have the same frequency near you---your in trouble.

I use the kam dual uhf kit. Cost £140 when I got it. Well worth buying some cheap breath shields for them as well. This means if someone spits all over it you can change shield cheaply rather than mic lol.

I bought a Gemini one for about £90. It is UHF, uses AA batteries which dont seem to need replacing very often and has on off switch and good quality. Highly reccommended.

If your looking for a dual mic set you can go wrong with the SKYTEC range which are basically Kam but the manufacturers own make you can pick up a pair for about £100 Ideal for weddings and karaokes

Which one? I started with a VHF Liberator ( in the terms of this thread, arounf£100 ish now, VHF, but other than that a robust mic, not the best feedback rejection, and dropout can sometimes be a problem with it being VHF ) and will still use it where necessary or more suitable( like a dry hire next week! ;) )

I recently added an AT 2120 to the kit. Didn't fancy Shure's PG58, tried a JTS and was impressed, but it seemed a little bassy for my stentorian tones. The AT seemed the best in my price range for me, and there was a time factor involved. Then everything changed, and I could actually have stretched funds to a Sennheiser, which was top of my wishlist! :(

Sennheiser use Trantec radio components in their UHF Freeport range so they can't be too bad!
Beyer have also used Trantec radio components (VHF) in the past.
