Hey guys,

Well yesterday was a busy day for me....2 gigs in one day-never done that before...

The first gig was in Derby at a community centre, and they had decked it out like a beach..I mean it was amazing....hundreds of yellow balloons on the floor for the beach, all the walls were yellow and blue, huge inflatable ****tails hanging from the ceiling, ribbons and posters everywhere, and the cake was like a meter long. It was a huge beach with 3D surf boards on etc.

Anyway I just played the latest tunes with the odd classic, did some games (musical statues, bumps etc) and magic. They thought it was great and that I did a grand job, but deep down, I thought I had done better at previous gigs. I must have given out at least 7 business cards, and one perspective wedding, so was chuffed about that, (also they were more than fine about my age.)

So after Derby came home, had a shower, suit on, off to 60th. We arrived at the venue which was alright, but a bit shabby in parts. We setup and for the first time I managed to tidy all the wires up so was chuffed about that. The family and guests soon arrived, and looked very dull and miserable, as If they were going to a funeral, not a surprise 60th! There must have only been 35 of them as well, which was odd!!

After about 30-40 people arriving the sister told me that the mum was on the way and wanted happy birthday played when she came in. This went fine, and then the background music started. There were a lot of sly comments I heard people making about each other, so I knew this would be an interesting night. Again they were fine about my age, and this is the kind of stuff I played:

Simply the Best-Tina Turner
Me Love-Sean Kingston
Wake me up before you go go-Wham!
The only way is up-Yazz Population
Deliah-Tom Jones
Tainted Love
Dizzy
You spin me right round baby right round
Dancing in the streets
Sign, Sealed, Delivered, I'm yours
Build me up Buttercup
Baby Love
Reach for the Stars
Don't Stop Me Now
Hot Stuff
Man I feel like a woman
Let's Dance
Take good care of my baby
Jailhouse Rock
A little less conversation
Caribbean Queen
You to me are everything
Brown Eyed Girl
Tambourine Man
Satisfaction
No Woman No Cry
New York
We are sailing
Maggie May
Mmm Bop
Voulez Vous
Waterloo
Saturday Night Fever
Dancing in the moonlight
Logical Song
Kingston Town
Red Red Wine
Bobby's Girl
Walking back to happiness
Run around Sue
Spanish Songs
and then the top 10

Not a lot of people were dancing throughout the night, only the last few hours, when the oldies started jiving. When people where dancing to the older music the daughter came up and told me to turn this off and put Chris Brown on. I said I would later, when they finish dancing, which she was ok about, but then her son came up and gave me some grief but I explained and he sort off understood. A man then came up and rudely told me to turn the music down, as people are trying to eat, and it's not a rave but a 60th party and nobody will be dancing, but he thought the music was great. He then came up about 5 minutes later and asked if I wanted any food, and I said no I'm fine thank you, and he shrugged his shoulders and said "fine you silly loss!" It was an ok night, but not a lot danced as I would have like, or compared to my previous gigs.

At the end of the night, the manger came up and said what a cracking job I did! He wanted a load of business cards, and he said when people book the function room (which they do every week for parties etc) he will recommend me as the resident DJ!!!! I told him a set price of £120(which he said was very cheap.) Then two more people came up asking for some cards, as they thought I did a good job.

All in all what a good day but that’s it now till July:mad:

Just wish I could do more...

I received a letter from school yesterday, and I have to put down four possible careers for when I'm older, and I certainly know what one of them will be:D

So I will boost my advertising, and send of some DVD's to pubs, and function rooms, and just hope, I can get some more of the old parties in:)
Thanks, Charlie
(plus it’s my birthday today, and I have told them to wait, instead of buying me a present, so if any of you have any ideas….should it go to advertising, or new lights?

It's really nice to hear about youngsters doing a great job, listening and learning from people on here, putting it into practise and enjoying themselves.

Well done Charlie!

Happy birthday to you.
I would say go for the advertising. Your set up looks great as it is and you can always upgrade later with the income from the extra bookings brought in with your advertising/marketing.
BTW is that your backup system I see in the left of the second photo lol.
