Great Night :D

Last night was fantastic,

We, (me and my mate, another Mobile DJ) started setting up about 6:10 and all going well, finished set up at 6:35 and waited around until 7:15 (started 7:30) the guests started arriving looking all jolly, bringing in there own booze :lol: I was asked on the phone to play 60's/70's but no one was dancing, so a man came up with a Jamacian holiday CD and asked us to stick it on, so we did. Guess what...? Everyone was up throughout that whole CD. It was quite bassie which meant the DJ's enemy (Sound Limiter) cut us out :mad: :bang: .

After we reset and back playing music we started all the cheesy stuff like:

YMCA
Maracena
Wig Wam Bam etc etc...

It was 10:00 and the husband of the lady whose birthday it was, came up and gave a speech, but when everyone clapped the SL cut us out again! :( Everyone was still dancing after the cake cutting etc, and we were asked to play more modern stuff, so we did, and then all the people who were sat down joined in and started to dance to albums such as floorfillers '08 (pretty ironic)


It was now pack up time (11:30) so we started packing up and the birthday girl paid me by cheque :( but should be ok. Had a good night and got asked for B. cards. so all good.

Which version of Wig Wam Bam do you play, Nathan? I always opt for the Damien version cos it's very dancey & cheesy (like the original version, then!) but this seems to be the pattern with my shows. I always play covers such as this and I Am What I Am by Hannah Jones (excellent version - a real crowd pleaser!).

Im not sure what version is is but its on the 'party party' album with two men on the back of it.

nice to see someone play covers hannah jones is a great version and her cover of bridge over troubled water is also good.

Don't think I have that version will have to put it on my shopping list. Often play wig wam bam followed by shang-a-lang (bay city rollers) if asked to play an extra couple at the end.

I play the orig by Sweet although i also have a version by those Agadoo Jokers..... Black Lace which is actually very good.
I did a Mo' Jive night last night ( including some Ballroom toons as well) for a 50th Birthday. Mind you although i often include (when asked ) Ballroom
stuff, i have never done a Mo Jive night. The hours of research i did on the subject obviously paid off as the night was brilliant and i had loads of positive comments. Over the past few weeks i e mailed 12 Mo jive and Cerock djs and
promoters for some advice and tips. Not one got back to me with any advice.
( Obviously a secret society !! ) So i am pleased i managed to sort it all out without their advice.

I don't know about you guys but i find little set backs like grumbling old people, sensitive sound limiters, rude guests really put down a good gig.

the way i feel is you could be doing the best gig ever but when one of the above happens it just puts a downer on me for the whole gig even though the guests usually don't take any notice of them. Maybe i just take it all to personally but i like events to run as smoothly as possible.

Agreed. Smooth and like clockwork is lovely but it seldom happens.
