Hi All,
Not long back into DJing after a short break. Started in 1997 whilst working for a sound and lighting company that grew from being a disco company. Had to supplement my income somehow and after a DJ went missing one night I was thrown to the lions. 11 years later and I'm still going, but had a break for about 18 months.
Work mainly for one agency that generally supply the gear as well. However now that I dont work full time for them (I had to get a real job) the equipment has not had the love that it needs. So since I started again at Christmas and was out every night (except five) in december, I decided to start buying my own gear. I started with a Denon HD-2500. From there I have filled my own gator rack which now contains the HD-2500's a Denon X-500 mixer a set of DN-D4000 CD players (just in case!) as well as a custom 1U HDD rack containing 2 500Gb HDD's.
Last weekend I was faced with a marquee with no tables and working with a band so the credit card bought me a Giraffe 4ft deck stand and LEDJ deck skirt.
This weekend another DJ friend of mine said that he was going to be getting rid of his two small DJ PA rigs, a set of Gemini XTR-400's retrofitted with Beyma drivers now compliment my small, but growing, show. Thank god he's only worried about getting the space in his garage back and not the cash (yet!). I figure that for the smaller venues I sometimes visit this will be enough, anything larger then the agency can supply the speakers and amps.
Still on the shopping list is a decent lighting rig, probably looking at the Acme Miracled's, thinking of two stacks of four one hung either side of the deckstand and then the Acme SupaNova pack (four lights) to go accross the top. Thank god for guaranteed bookings and a credit card! This year the tax man can look at all I've spent and take nothing (or so I hope).
I'm now based in Gloucester although the company I work for is based in North Bristol. So most of my gigs are in the south west, either complimenting a band, working large hotels or corporate gigs. However, working with the PA company as well I get to work on large corporate stuff all over the UK with trucks worth of equipment.
My favourite show to date has to be on the main stage at the CIA in Cardiff, DJing either side of the Human League with 2500+ Students and a 80kW EAW PA system.
I mainly play the cheesey party stuff along with modern chart, however I will turn my hand to anything if required.
Hope that introduces me enough for everyone!
Cheers
Paul
