A bridge too far..

So all's going well with preparations for the show and its said no publicity is bad publicity... so when this appeared in one of the local papers..

Take a good look at the advertising hoarding in question... yup its ours.

so this local councillor has a bee in his bonnet about it but as the bridge isn't owned by the council (its owned by the Highways agency which isn't bothered so long as vehicles parked on it are taxed and not abandoned) there's not a lot he can do apart from complain, but instead encourages the papers readers to go to his public blog to vote "yes" in an online vote for action to be taken.


So a few phone calls later ....

At the end of the vote there was an overwhelming 95% "no" vote :whistle:

So to my complete surprise this morning on his blog he announced a landslide 95% "yes" vote !!!

Now usually I would have laughed this off as sheer blatant cheek, but not today, so some more calls later and armed with copies of the cached pages from the weekend,a few politically minded friends were busily writing to said councillor to remind him of the fact he was the one a few months back complaining how the government were massaging figures to fit the facts and how just because you post it on the internet and in the local papers doesn't make it true.

Plus people would be more interested in the fact of a councillor falsifying a public vote to suit his personal campaign than a few cars and a trailer on a bridge!

Results now retracted from his blog, and mucho back pedalling going on..

This thread is veering very much towards political discussion, it's hard to avoid it sometimes! However, I don't see anything wrong with the cars and advertising boards being there, provided they are set back safely away from the road, and don't provide a distraction for the motorists.

Advertising on the side of the road should be banned.
A mate of mine saw a young woman advertising that she had a great pair of legs in her mini skirt and he ran into the back of a bus !

Had some fun with this, and to be fair wouldn't have been bothered until the online voting thing started. just funny that he thought he could alter the result and no-one would notice....

Personally, the Highways agency ought to throw the book at ya. There are just too many 'rogue' adverts cropping up along roads, at intersections etc and so far as I'm concerned, they are a potential hazard to safe driving. There are enough things to keep the motorist busy and needing full concentration, without this kind of rubbish to act as a distraction.

NOT having advertising hoardings everywhere alongside roads, is one thing that separates this country from nearly all our continental cousins and most of the rest of the world. Thank goodness!!!!!

That's my view and I ain't gonna change.

Shame there's not a book to be thrown as its within the law, the Highways Agency have made their position clear.

"Not Having" ??? duh hello drive down any motorway in the Uk and there's at last 20 ebuyer signs, even on the A roads there's shop signs, for sale signs, cars for sale, ice cream vans, vans with signs on them, id rather have a sign on a motorway bridge than the usual gang of chavs dropping paving slabs from it.

but hey that's your opinion and its not gonna change, good luck with that.

Don't have a mobile phone, or sat nav and the radio is usually on very quietly.
