I'm looking for a van, I know i'm to young but are vans only manual!!!? Because I don't really want a vehicle with Manual, I'd rather have Automatic.

Know where I can find an Automatic van (Not a bipper).

You can get automatic vans, but they are very few and far between as I found out when I was looking recently.

Why do you want an auto for if you haven't started driving and haven't got the experience to know which is best for you? :confused:

You will probably learn to drive a manual, therefore stick with it.

My experience of automatic vans is not good. Underpowered compared to manuals and much more expensive to run.

Ive brought a 'test' 3D Driving School. for me when i get bored and to help me learn the laws of the road.

I just think dont like it when you forget to change gear or whatever but ill have to learn to like it.

It comes naturally. Well with me it did... and I don't "forget" to change gear.. :confused:

And even then you might not be able to drive a van, My Mrs passed her test last week in May and her new licence arrived this week and doesn't come with van entitlement on at all - she's (age removed) in her late 20s.

I havn't looked into it but there is possibly another test for vans these days or at least it would seem you have to pay extra to have the entitlement added

Iv always toyed with the idea of an automatic then found out that if you larn in an automatic then thats all you can drive! If you want to use a manual you would have to resite the test in a manual car! They also give out rubbish MPG due to high revvage?!

It's best to learn in a manual.
Then move onto Auto if you like it.

However.. it *really* isn't worth worrying about now.
Also there are less auto instructors out there.. so I expect they charge more.

Forget the automatic vans, few and far between, if any !

Most mechanics I have chatted to recommend the Astra Van 1.7TDI.
Plenty of room and good on fuel.

I get all my gear in a Mondeo hatchback, its amazing what i can get in it.
Its just like a van with the back seats folded down.

I will probably buy a van or estate next time tho.

I would strongly suggest you get a manual for the following reasons:

1) Far more choice, as most vans are manual.

2) Automatics use more fuel...which is more important then ever in the current climate.

3) You have more control in a manual, as you change gear when YOU want to, not when the vehicle decides to.

4) If you ever find yourself with a flat battery, you can't bump start an automatic.

This is still correct. if you pass in an automatic you don't get a full licence just one allowing to drive automatics.

So true. you really can't understand what its like until you get in the seat yourself. Some love it (me:)) some hate it (my partner).

I passed a year ago this month and am legally allowed to drive vans:)

Also i can't remember if anyone commented on it but insurance is stupidly high with new drivers and vans. so much in fact that 3 insurance companies refused to offer me insurance as it was just to expensive and not worth the bother for them. they said just for them to insure me i have to be 25 with at least 3 years no claims so i wouldn't get your hopes up just yet if i was you.

And that was on a old ford transit. apparently they are to powerful for a new driver to handle:confused:
