not the g2s but i used the predecessors about 10 years ago- not bad.
also used the powered version one night and one gave up- that put me off powered speakers for a while.

Hi Al, used a pair of these two weeks ago which belonged to a DJ I worked with.

My only comment would be I think they sound a bit "toppy" or harsh sounding-although for the PA side of things--which I need a lot--gives them good clarity.

The DJ I worked with has 4 and says he can cover up to about 300 people easily with them ( not using bass bins )

Do you mean JBL is junk in general or the item in question is junk?

Alot of people (including me) think JBL are the best speaker manufacturer around at the moment so how can you say they are junk?

I've used JBL passive speakers for sometime now and am very happy with them. never had any problems with them what so ever and am planning to buy another pair in the future.

I used them for about 2 years, the jbl powered eon g2. Very clear, very punchy, lightweight and very efficient. The top end can be a bit sharp but if my memory serves me correctly there are tone controls on the back of the speaker. I found that the further away i stood the better they sounded, the sound on them travels well. The only down sides are, that when you crank them up the power cable can wiggle out (maybe i needed bigger iec). Also the fuses inside can blow and if that blows its a real sh*t to unscrew all the casing and get the thing open. In 2 years i had 2 fuses blow, some peeps have no fuses blow at all, some have more than 2 blow.

In conclusion, if i was working on a budget and space in the van, and wanted a clear and punchy sound capable of covering up to 200 people i would get them. If i had a large sum of dosh available and wanted more from my PA i wouldnt.

I didn't say that - I said I was told...... actually by one of the premier independent UK speaker manufacturers who is highly respected throughout the industry. But from what I have listened to, to my ear they are rather tinny!:)

In my experience all sound engineers and industry types have these little sayings for every make of gear, JBL....Junk but loud or Allen & Heath.....Allen & Grief. Theres a few more that I cant remember.

before i bought them i listened to quite a few in live situations and they sounded great
after i had sold them i had the opportunity to hear them in the hands of the new owners and they sounded fine it was then i reallised what the problem was they only sounded crap through my citronic 10:4 mixer still you live and learn

GIGO?

Its surprisinmg it makes that much difference.

The ones I worked with had a cheap numark mixer--I guess they might sound better with a quality mixer :thumbs_up:

I think a quality mixer makes all the difference. In the club i work, we changed our old cloud cxm module mixer for a newer cloud cxm mixer and the sound was alot better. Citronic mixers are not great sound quality. I think for a good sound you need to spend a bit of money ie Allen & Heath OR Formula Sound or Rane.

Used to have 20 of them at a Local bowling alley me and a mate used to dj in, very toppy and also they distort VERY easily, They are good for Dj monitors but for discos they dont have my reccomendation.

i had a set got them on a recomendation from a guy who is a legend when it comes to sound systems was gonna buy mackies but he told me to got for the eon 15 g2 i couldnt fault them ran them through a jbl mixer and they sounded great

well i had them for 3 years and wanted a change but i was tempted to keep them and run them with the rcf 310a and 2 subs for bigger gigs
