I've decided that it's finally time to go through the hassle of changing my name as i think that its putting off potential customers and doesn't sounds professional at all.
I want to aim at private parties more and want to specialize in weddings, birthdays, engagements, Prom's, Diner and Dance and other private celebrations and am looking for a name to reflex this and sounds good and more professional.
The problem is I've been trying to come up with a new name now for a while and can't think of anything i like and that isn't already got a mobile disco running under that name.
Can anyone help me, give me some idea's or tips about coming up with names?
Any advice welcome:)

Good plan, the name might well be holding you back! I seem to remember our old buddy Pagan Flame having a similar problem, which he solved quite nicely!
You'll need to give us something to go on - real name - sort of business you're looking for, type of music etc, so we've got something to play with!

Keep Cooper (it is a classy name with associations to sports cars etc) and change roadshow to Mobile Discotheque.

Paul,
The only thing I would say (coming from the same area) is try not to mention locality in your name. Nothing like "West Country Disco's" or similar. If you do, it sounds like you can be inadvertantly limiting yourself in the area of work.
I like the idea of keeping "Cooper" and I'm sure there should be a play on the whole Mini thing, along the lines of "Coopers Club-(man)". :sofa: Ok poor effort that still needs way more work. If I get a slack afternoon at work today I'll think about things.
Cheers

I honestly don't know if a name means that much, it's whether or not you're able to make the most of it. Luckily, you have a name that is perfectly acceptable as a business name, with no neeed to change it. I think Theo's suggestion (or something similar) is as good as anything. It's relatively concise and has the flexibility to move forward if times change.
Look at the different names on this board. Nearly all of them are nothing fancy, nothing that would make me think "wow, that's such a clever name, it conveys everything I'm looking for, I must book them".
If you re-invent your name, you'd also have to re-invent yourself to take full advantage of it, wouldn't you?

Anything with "**** **** Disco's" or "**** **** Sound & Lighting" kind of restricts you in the future and could require another costly rebrand.

Before you make your final choice, spend an hour with Google. Think about what people in your catchment area will be searching for and how difficult it would be if you went with something like 'Pauls Discos' to gain prominence in those listings without spending a fortune/a lot of time on SEO.
Also if your advertising strategy involves printed directories, you might want to consider positioning. You'll find loads of 'A1/AAA/ABC' chancers jostling for the first position but 'Pauls Discos' will certainly be lost in the middle of the alphabet.
Hope this gives you food for thought!

Took your advice. googled that and many other items with "Ultrabeat" in. Can't find any DJ's or mobile disco with the same name anywhere:).
All i find is pages about when the clubland DJ's "Ultra Beat" played in one of Bristols biggest clubs a while back that includes many youtube video's.
So what do you think of the name and the possible logo?

Ultrabeat might make the bottom few.
To be honest I'm not to worried about that as i don't rely on advertising to get my business as most of my work comes from word of mouth or from people who have seen me at gigs but i do plan a "light" bit of advertising when everything is in place.
Do you think this is a good name for a mobile disco company? will it work do you think?
Next thing i need to start work on is my tag line/slogan for the new name.

The only problem with Ultrabeat for me, if I were a customer. is that I would think you are a 'Drum n Bass' type disco, with loads of 'boom boom boom' going on, which would put me off if I was looking for a disco for perhaps a 50th party, I tend to think a name that's relevent to all generations seems better.....but then again, I have been wrong about many things before!
At the end of the day you need to choose a name you're comfortable with, and suits your business.

It's funny you should say that actually. I asked some friends and family what they thought about the name. Some said it reminds them of Club music, another said Trance and another said older music so it seems like different people See's it in different ways. so I'm hoping that the client/customer will be able to see what they are looking for in the name also.
Plus i will be making very clear on the new website and other advertising means that i cover all occisions and music types.

I'm interested to know if those different ages applying different meanings to 'UltraBeat' did so with a positive or a negative connotation. The person who said it made them think of Trance may not like Trance, for example.

On hearing "Cooperative DJ" for the second time it's actually starting to grow on me but I've made my choice now and the ball has started to roll with it.
It was actually abit of a mixed bag. the people who said trance and club were around there 20's who do like club/trance but is not there favorite type of music but the person who suggested older music who was also in the same age group does prefer older music to anything else. so i'm not really sure what you can include from these findings.

It's good that it appeals to the younger crowd but I'm also try to go for the older crowd as well. I'm hoping that i can slightly alter the range of market it is aimed at in the marketing, style and theme as my overall goal is to aim at everyone.
It's quite worrying as my main goal is to aim for weddings, Birthdays, engagements and other private celebrations:eek:

Personally I think it is a bad choice for some of the reasons already mentioned and the further you go the harder it is to reverse that decision but if you are genuinly happy with your choice then go for it.
As for Cooperative I think that would be a mistake too as people may think you are connected to the Co-Operative group of businesses. Cooperactive Disco would be a better choice for me.

What's to stop you operating under multiple identities?
So long as you have one registered business identity, you can "trade as" whatever you like.
I've been preparing something similar for the 2009 season. My main VV identity kept for general purpose work, 'ClubVibe' for my older kids/young teens offering (freeing 'VV Junior' for small-rig sector work) and 'A.N.Other' (to be decided!) for my fully project managed all-day wedding/corporate event package.

Please take this as constructive critisim, it's not meant as a dig at you but I feel, no matter what name you choose, you have to get your new website right to get better work. :)
On looking at your current site I was immediately drawn to 3 things:
1. The spelling: 'Party's' instead of 'Parties' was one that kept jumping out at me.
2. The page doesn't load fully on to my 15" screen so you have to keep scrolling left to right, really annoying!
3. Adverts jumping out at me make me want to navigate away immediately!
These 3 issues gave me the impression that I was looking at a less than professional outfit. :) :)
EDIT: just wanna say I make these comments as someone that gets almost all of my new work through my website so I may be putting too much emphasis on that aspect....good luck with the name thing BTW!

If as you suggest you do go with 'UltraBeat' and target at the young adults market, then there's nothing stopping you going with 'UltraClassics' for an older demographic, 'UltraKids', 'UltraWeddings' etc. etc. and keep the same logo, or a variant on it, across the brand.

I'm just putting the final touches to the new theme and website and currently waiting for the new cards and promo material to come through. I plan to chance my name on here the same time i change the business over which I'm hoping will be in the next 2 weeks.
Don't worry I'm sure to start up a new thread somewhere on here to celebrate the new business and to give you lot a chance to see the new site, theme, style and a sample of my promo materials. Keep your eyes peeled it's coming soon!
