Old timer DJ's

I have been DJing since around 1975.

I went into a local night club after not having been to one for years.

I was quite amazed to find that despite many youngsters being in that they were pretty much playing my set from the 70's !

Good music just lives on and on.......................

Sadly the man who taught me to DJ passed away a few years ago.
In his memory I always end my gigs with his ending song "Nah nah hey hey kiss him goodbye"

Im 27 and the 60th birthdays are my favorites. I generally play mostly music prior to 80's even in my club sets. I was playing rock and roll tonight in a club. Your right the good music lives on.

oh yes good music lives, afew of my sets contain 80s and 90s music when am in a club totall floorfillers if mixed with the right tune, damian

I too like the old stuff, the only shame is that sometimes due to the recording techniques in the old days, the music can sound a little 'tinny' even with the remastered ones.

I suppose the lesson to be learnt (for me anyway) is not to follow an 80's/90's beefy synthesised sound with a 60's 'raw' sound. :)

I may be older than many around here, but I don't live entirely in the past. New music can still give me a buzz.

My own perception is that although young people can get off to old trax, in many cases it's the old tracks I didn't even enjoy as a youngster. There are still many tracks 'waiting to be discovered' by the average young punter, many excellent tracks.

I did a school prom last year where the staff were the on'es asking for current chart and the pupils were asking for 70's & 80's

i remember those days well, most mobiles around here used to finnish with the obligotory steam-nah nah hey hey kiss him

I used to go to the same dances as I live in Cumbria !

Sometimes at Langwathby dances it would end as as bloodbath.
The bikers would mix in with the skinheads from Penrith and all hell would break loose. This is why the dances got banned in the end, too much trouble.

In fact it was probably me playing on the disco for the Untouchables !

Now when I saw the tittle of this thread I thought it was going to be a dig at me & my fellow oldie DJs but nice to see it isn't, in-fact it looks like we are quite fashionable at the moment ;)
But what I would like to know is, my brother is my roadie and he is 61 & I am 51 are we the oldest crew on the road ? 112 between us :D

Had more 21st birthdays this year asking for old school disco than the R n B stuff of recent I believe this is due to the links of current indie bands quoting earlier artists as their icons again LOL Eighties music is rocking around here all over again

Yes that was a good one , must try and come out again & see your new kit , I don't seem to get much time these day's I'm doing a few more myself.
Hopefully I can sell this shop soon and concentrate on doing more gigs.

Oy Daz! Watch it or you'll get a slap!:) Jan and I together only add up to 115; so Robbie and Carol beat us. At a recent SEDA meeting I discovered that Rob Harknett of Lovers Leap Disco in Essex has been dj'ing longer than me and he works with his wife Jan. They may beat me and my Jan and possibly Robbie and Carol.

Heh-heh, I often use that (my now not-so-secret weapon), I just jump in to the drum break and play from there.
