Further to Dragonfly's reply on the 18yr old party thread he mentioned that he has seen punch ups at a wedding!!!!! I have never heard of such a thing.

However if you have had this happen at a wedding reception lets hear the story chaps.

I've seen it happen a few times. The worst was an irish wedding in a community hall in Redhill many years ago. It was a very boozy do and trouble erupted early in the evening and the ensuing punch up resulted in the wedding cake being knocked over. I had an early night!

I was DJing at a wedding and there was another party going on in an adjacent room. That party finished earlier than the wedding and a female guest from the wedding went into the other room and decided to nick a balloon and a male member of that party decided he didn't like that so head butted her...

There is a kind of corridor between all 4 rooms and I was wondering why my room had got a bit quiet until I looked out the window to see a mass riot going on in the corridor...

I had to use my mobile to ring reception to get them to call the police.

My kind of booking...NOT!!

seen 2 main ones

the latest was a TA wedding when about an hour before the end i was cueing up and the best man and my good lady who was roadieing tapped me on the shoulder and said time to call it a night as i looked up i saw chairs , bodies and blood flying at the other end of the room must have been about 7 or 8 guys going at it.

the other was a wedding in ilkeston where , firstly we got evacuated 4 times because the guests played the lets set the tablecloths on fire party game .... do you know the rules to that mr. mayhem :D :D :D :D

then the grooms uncle was accused of going round stealing pleoples drinks , which primarily upset him and then his nephew lots of people involved uncle chucked out but 20 mins later sneeked back in by the groom , all happens again and at 10pm the groom and his new father in law are nose to nose on the dancefloor with words to the effect of

"I told my daughter not to get involved with you and your inbred family and that you werent good enough for her"

enter security to once again evaucuate the building this time permanently and apparently police were outside to escort wedding guests to their cars and members of the barstaff as they left.

If I'd known it was a competition, I would have embellished it a little.;)

Its not Darren lol,

I just thought that the trouble at the function you wrote about would be hard to top but saying that Dragonfly's post will be hard to top.

No Dragonfly I did not know of the game you mentioned maybe I will add it to my list

Unfortunately, I have to say there was a fight at my own wedding! There were just about 1000 people there, and at the and of the night, 2 very good friends in there 40's at the time, got fighting over a comment about one of the friend's daughters. The comment wasn't nasty but was taken the wrong way, and with drink playing it's part, the other got offended and it kicked off.

Then someone tried to step in and stop it, and someone else thought that they were joining in! The result, 20-ish people fighting in the bar area, but mayhem with people trying to get out of the way!

To be honest, with so many people there, it could have been much worse.

However I have to say, the bar where the fight took place was in a different room to the dancefloor, and didn't affect the function itself, and many people didn't even know it had happened until after the event.

Yes I had one of those in Watford back in the 70s--we all left early and I got paid eventually.

TRY THIS

Burnt Oak, North London Wedding Co op Hall

I was playing in a Band at the time--early on two big guys suddenly appear on the dancefloor and start slugging it out like a World Title fight:eek:

Some guy comes up and says--KEEP PLAYING DONT STOP:eek:

Fairly quickly they were separated.

Half time I went to the bar and see this guy--errr what was that all about???

Oh he said that was the Bride Groom and Best Man:bang: :bang: :bang:

Nice eh?

I HAVE SOME OTHER HORROR STORIES LIKE THAT--BUT NOT AT WEDDINGS.

I had to escort a young man full of drink from my dance floor as he was flailing everywhere, knocking into ladies that were dancing, and then bashed into the front of my disco, I warned him nicely to clam down, but it happened again, and on the third time, I went on to the floor, put my arm around him and led him away, I got to the bar, and was approached by a large gentleman, who had obviously seen what had happened, and started laying the law down to him. At this, my guy, decided he'd throw a punch at the big fella, which wasn't a great idea! 1. Because he was a big fella, and 2. because I still had my arm around him, (and a handful of his skin!) So he more or less fell forward, straight on to an uppercut! They then picked him up, and chucked him into the car park! When I was clearing up and packing away,I passed him still sat on the kerb. Great night DJ he said! AAAAARRRRGGGH!!!

if it's a competition try this one, chief bridesmaid sticks her tongue down the groom's throat in the middle of the dancefloor infront of all guests as you can probably guess bride not to happy:boxer2:

Did a wedding once where the grooms' estranged father turns up - uninvited. After an argument between the two, four guys throw "daddy" straight out of the door. Not wanting to give in too easily, about ten mins later he returns only be punched in the face several times and thrown out again - through the window this time. Lucky for him it was open (it was the middle of summer and really warm) but it looked like he banged his head on the side of the window frame on the way through! Needless to say, he didn't return this time.

I was told to carry on and it was going be "the best party ever!". So I did and it was (well, for them anyway!). Near the end of the night this little girl of about 5-7 came up and told me I was the "best disco man in the world!" (her words, not mine). She even gave me a wave and a big smile on the way out and the bride & groom and about 15 other people came and shook my hand and apologised for the disturbance (not that it bothered me cos I'd seen a lot worse around that area).

Families, eh?

i mentioned a few days ago in another thread, that a few years ago i looked up from cue-ing in a record (headphones on) to see a bridesmaid in full flowing gown run across the dancefloor and stick a nut on the brides father (i think) that was back in 88 or 89,

but more recently i did a wedding for an older couple, where the guests were already drunk when the evening reception began, the groom was so drunk he was hanging onto the wall for support.

so when it came time for the 1st dance he could hardly stand, but decided to go ahead anyway. of couse he fell over pulling the bride over on top of him her dress came down flashing her top half to everyone there, not a pretty site as she was about 60 years old, they rolled about on the floor a bit and were eventually helped back to their seats.

It was all good drunken comedy with slurred speeches etc, until a little while later it turned serious, and it turned out the brides daughter had got sick and "helped" the old groom down the stairs, to go home, he had to go to hospital, but the bride and rest of her family stayed and drank a few more pints and screamed at each other, throughout the rest of the night there were occasional outburts and cries of "she pushed my eefing dad down the stairs" and "Ill kill her!!." etc... im sure they were comparing tattoos too. good old Hendon sunderland.

This wasn't the Catholic Club, was it, bri? The doorman tells me it can get rough in there but I've never seen any bother at all (yet... touch wood... etc..). There are a few other venues in Hendon but I've yet to have the pleasure of those!!! :D :D :D

I had an almost punch up at my best friends wedding from an idiot on our table making comments to my girlfriend, she got really upset and we left for a bit. on return there was a bit of a stand off but i made sure it was very subtle.

I did a wedding last year and the groom head butted the brides sisters boyfriend.

OK, here's the full version of a story I've mentioned a couple of times...

I did a wedding, must be about four years ago, now - the bride was Chilean, the groom was Middle Eastern (can't remember which country, might've started with 'I'). As you can possibly imagine there aren't many Chileans in Auckland... as it turns out there are three main families. The bride was from one and many of the guests were from the other two.

Apparently the eldest son from one of the families slept with the bride the week before the wedding, the eldest son from the other family was angry that he'd been snubbed in such a way and chose to confront the first guy in the toilets. In short order the guy who'd slept with the bride was out cold in the Men's and the other guy took off over the golf course. In short order the police arrived (including a chopper over the course) - as the police started interviewing people two of the matriarchs (I think it was the mother of the bride and the mother of the unconscious guy) started in on each other right in front of the police.

Needless to say it was a short night (even though they'd paid for an extra hour), that said I ended up leaving normal time as I couldn't leave the premises until the escapee was apprehended. It was a real bummer, too, as I was playing a whole lot of Spanish language version of various pop favourites including 'I Will Survive' and the Chileans were really into it :D
