No, not me...I hardly ever get propositioned this days.
However, my 17 year old roadie seems to be fighting them off. If it's not bridesmaids it's scantily clad females at our club gig. Even older women seem to be after him at every turn.
Ok, I'm jealous. I may have to sack him! :D
I'm actually very proud of him, he's resisted temptation and acted professionally every time, when a lot of youngsters may have acted inappropriately when so much temptation is at hand. He's been a credit to my business.
I'll be sorry to see him go, but the time is drawing near. He's signed up to join the army and will be off to Afghanistan after his training.
Youngsters for the most part get a bad name because of all the chavs that are around, this guy's restored my faith in todays' youth

Good lad.Well done he.
I'm sorry to hear that you don't get propositioned as much as you might like nowadays.;) It does seem to happen. I'm even tending to get less endearments from the Grannies! :( Sadly the most recent admirer was of the male persuasion!  Should I lose the moustache do you think?  :D

I never get the women but I've had a few men offer to buy me drinks at my karaoke shows (never accepted, though!). Perhaps it's due to the Tom Selleck/Magnum style shirts that I wear. If the shirts were any camper I'd be in the Village People! :D :D :D

It seems the ladies have the stereotype of a DJ being male+fit+slim+and up for it. Most recent comment i heard? get this
12th Birthday - Single mum to parent of birthday girl "is the DJ fit?"
Parent "see for yourself"
Single mum "gutted"
Me - mental note to get on the stairmaster
However on the subject of roadies - I once had a young man come and help but had to let him go after he engaged in "relations" in the back of the van at a function.
No not jealous but it was an engagement party and the lady in question was one of the hosts of the evening if you get my drift, If he had of got caught then god knows what couldda happened

I got chatted up by a drunken young woman at a pub disco.
She was all over me, then she turned around and threw up everywhere.
I obviously make women sick. At least she missed my gear !

Nice to know you have a well behaved roadie. I can honestly say they are probably hard to come by.
Mine on the other hand was well behaved for a while. Then he was under the influence of Alcohol. He turned into an alcoholic and i started to have problems with him.
1. Saying he was tired because he hadnt had much sleep. A manager of one of my resident venues caught him drinking. He used to leave the disco every half an hour or so.... saying he was going for a smoke. It turns out he was downstairs in the hotels public bar supping pints of stella on duty because i was working i couldnt leave the disco.
2. Meeting me at my resident venue one night. He turned up drunk as we were about to go into my resident hotel to do a wedding. Luckily no wedding guests saw or even the bride and groom. Phew!! I did sack him that night.
Put it this way my resident venues werent impressed with the antics of my assistant. They went mad which i dont blame them for doing so. I nearly lost my resident hotel because of him.
But i did the wedding on my own and got excellent feedback from the bride and groom that night. The hotel management were happy with my perfomance as well. So went into a meeting with them thinking i was going to loose the contract. But they turned round and said that my entertainment services are a valuable asset to the hotel and so long as my roadie didnt come back in the building my contract isnt at risk of breach and i wont lose it.
I worked at another place i work at regular. They wanted to have a word with me as well about my roadie. I assured both venues that my roadie no longer works for me which he doesnt.
thats not the worst either. He broke a pair of my RCF 322a cabs by dropping them down a full flight of stairs. So cost me a lot financially as well. Over a grand worth of active speaker!
So on a happy note. I havent lost anything through it... but was at risk through it. I dont have a roadie anymore for discos. My fiancee Michelle comes with me and acts professionally on the job just like i do. Because she knows full well.
You can spend years building up a good reputation. But a reputation can be tarnished if something goes wrong.

Not a sad statement at all, Darren...simply a fact of life.
It makes sense if you think about it, as we know ourselves better than we know anyone else.
Its a bit like when people here start talking about a meet up, at Plasa for example. If I say I will be going on a certain day, then I KNOW I will be there on the day I said.
However, you know as well as I do that despite plenty of people saying they'll definately be there, some will come up with feeble excuses at the last minute, and others won't say anything, but just won't bother turning up at all.

With all due respect, I think that's the most unbelievable thing you've ever said. How on EARTH can you say that when you don't even know me?
For your information, there are quite a few people I trust 99.9%, and as you & I have already agreed, there is nobody else that we can trust 100%.
As for being sad & being a loner, I have no idea why you think that, but just to put the record straight you couldn't be more wrong!
If I was a gambling man, I'd be willing to bet that I'm probably happier with my life than most people on this site!

As I've already said, there are quite a few people who I trust 99.9%.
As for trusting people 100%, the people (apart from ourselves) we should be able to trust the most are probably our partners. Now think about the massive number of relationships which break down due to those involved making the mistake of THINKING they could trust each other 100%.....but being proved very wrong.
BeerFunk
23-06-2008, 05:56 PM
I think you have to put things into context, when you talk about trust. Circumstances dictate, and when they change, the entire situation is flipped on it's back.
Example - I trust my brother not to attack me with a knife. That goes without saying (I hope!). However, if he was to become mentally ill, the odds of that happening are slashed (;)). So... in the back of your mind, you realise that things can change, and so 100% trust is not logical.
I'm sorry, but I agree with Rob... :(

Speed Dating Supremo: "ROB JAMES ENTERTAINS, FORM A QUEUE LADIES!" :D :D
Alright chuck. Now here's our Graham with a quick reminder.....
EDIT: which brings us nicely back on topic, ever been propositioned whilst working Rob? :D
Yes Tony, and I've been on a fair few dates as a result.
Nothing serious, though.
I've also been propositioned by a few non-females over the years

I must admit so have I. Very worrying. Even some straight people have thought I am gay. My stock reply to some of them has been either
1. You'd better ask my wife about that or
2. Leave me alone with your wife/girlfriend and lets see what she thinks.
There was a very well know London club dj who really had the hots for me when I worked at Polydor.

I'm always being propositioned, but it's usualy by ladies at least 10 years older than me who have had too much to drink.....why can it never be loose women 10 years younger?.......not that I'd ever act on it but it would be good for the ego! :D :D
There's a formula to work out if you should date someone or not : - take your age, halve it and then add 8 years and that's the youngest that you should go out with (it works from 16 upwards : - when you're 16 then go out with a 16 year old; at 20 an 18 year old is respectable; 30 then the youngest is 23 etc etc).
The problem for us guys who have been around for many years is it also works in reverse. So when you become a fifty year old DJ, you're still within the window of acceptability for an 84 year old punter.... :bang:
