LED lights, advice please

I need some help deciding what to get .

I already use a Impossibled (Cyclope) as a centre piece , with a chauvet intimadator 2 either side , on the ends of the truss I use either a NJD Datamoon, or a ACME Falcon , Its these that I wish to change , LED`s are a lot lighter, run cool and have smaller power requirements , that suits me fine,I was thinking about the following.

Acme InvincibLED
LED Boogie
ACME LittLED
American Dj LED Vision
American Dj Mystic LED
American Dj Revo 2
American Dj Spectrum LED FX2
LEDJ Cobalt
Equinox Carbon.

Any ideas on these , other choices?

Having just got these Equinox Carbon x2 amazing lights when i was sent them they sent the cobalts by mistake so i had a wee play with them,was not that inpressed with them compared to the carbons.

I used Justin's Impossibled, and LED Par rig last week, and I have to say certain facets of it really impressed me, and have given me a big insight into what I may get in future.

I think that having 2 x Equinox carbons and the Impossibled is a bit of an overkill .
I`me thinking something smaller for the "wings" of the truss, maybe the American DJ Dual GEM LED, small, neat, with a good demo.

Probably get lynched for this, but personally I find most LED lights boring. I don't find them 'busy' enough.
Personal opinion though so don't all have a go !!

As much as i do like LED effects lighting i do think that you still need some good old fashioned Gobo lights to give your show abit more pattern and not just "dancing" dots. I think you just need abit of variation in your lighting as IMO all LED can be abit boring.

:approve: I really like these LED effects but feel they are useful as an addition to halogen/discharge scanners, moving heads, gobo flowers etc. Not sure I could go all LED myself. I have an ImpossibLED and 4x LED Par 56's.......love 'em.

I also feel they are way over priced at the moment. If you open them up and look at the components used it just doesn't add up, we are obviously paying because of massive demand and for R&D at the moment! I believe if you leave it a year or so then they are going to come right down in price. :)

EDIT: I think the LED Par cans are very reasonably priced BTW. :approve:

:D :D Now I've not posted my opinions on this matter yet, but having used Justin's Impossibled and LED Pars I have come to the conclusion that I don't like the physical aspect of Pars. I do however love the similarly powered bars or boxes. I also think that I shall go for an LED Barrel effect or two when I can afford them.

Peter what is it you don't like about LED pars?

I'm interested because I feel that when they are used as shown in Justin's pictures from Friday night, facing out into the crowd, they are not being used to their best effect. (no offence meant Justin :))

I believe they are far better as mood lighting firing up onto columns, walls or when being used just to light areas up.

Those barrel effects do look quite interesting don't they?

Well I'm an ImpossibLED user and whilst I love the effect for it's "retro dancefloor" capability and it's brightness, I accept it's a bit limited and beef it up with moons, rollers and lasers.

I recently picked up a cheap Eurolite Z-224 because it produces a moving effect. My intention was to alternate between the ImpossibLED and the Z-224 depending on the mood. I have to say I'm a bit disappointed with the new effect - sure, the movement aspect is cool, but it has very limited standalone capability (ie on/off) and is nowhere near as bright as the ImpossibLED so they don't complement each other in the way I'd hoped. Standalone either effect is good though!

I have a couple of the LEDJ RGB bars and they're fantastic for mood lighting. I also have a pair of Loopy Tubes which I use on occasion but they're a bit dated now.

Simply the huge enclosures,chrome or black. I know I'm not renowned on here for being Mr Tasteful, but they just really jar on me. They look so industrial, rather than aesthetically pleasing. It may only be me who thinks so, but I can live with that.
With regard to the direction of them, I think the boxed or bar effects are visually pleasing themselves, and would be more acceptable facing the crowd. Has anyone got a link to some, as I've not found them myself in a limited search.

I can't decide whether the Impossibled is on my must have list, but I'm fairly sure the barrels are.

I kind of agree, they do look better when used for mood lighting, that's the main reason I bought them. But you know what it's like when you get new toys, you just HAVE to use them. Unfortunately I haven't been in a venue that mood lighting would be appropriate yet. I think I'll wait for the 'higher class' venues for that. :)
