View Full Version : could a dead short dmx cable cause main fuse blow

is it possible for the main fuse on 1 of my dmx lights which is inter linked with the 4 others of the same type of light, blow because of a dead short on 1 of the dmx cables, because on friday night, i had my master go down it would run fine on it's own but as soon as you plug a dmx cables into the light POP fuse goes again & again & again.

tested the leads today and actully found that i had to dead short leads but it only seemed that one of the leads was actully causing the problem.

any ideas anybody

Can you punctuate and check the spelling of the statement as it doesn't make any sense at the mo!

I was going to respond to the OP but had the same difficulty reading it as you and in getting a clear idea of what the problem was. :)

There's either something badly wrong with the design, or a dodgy connection somewhere if a low voltage DMX signal is causing a fuse to blow. Either way, regardless of the cable, the unit is flawed.

Absolutely Mr Funk:)
It's possible that the dodgy DMX cable is giving the fixture some weired and wonderful instructions, maybe to goto full power, move very quickly, do a reset sequence and that is causing the fuse to pop, but as Beer has said, flawed unit. It shouldn't matter what the DMX gets (well, short of mains up it's chuff:eek: ), it definately should not blow a fuse!
