Hi all
Hope you can help.
I have 2 x peavey XT2 tops / 2 peavey Eurosys500 xt subs and a peavey XR684 mixer amp.
On saturday my mixer amp died
:(
Turns out my power supply overheated. :bang:
My Pa fixer fella was asking me about my Ohms ( yes this old stick again!) all my speakers are 4 ohms each so he said my setup would be running at 2 ohms - hence the heat and burn out.
So I rang peavey to see if they could assist since the speakers are designed to work together it seemed odd that it would run at 2 ohms.
APPARANTLEY ( I am hoping someone on here can confirm) the xt500 subs have a passive crossover built in (?) which (and I got lost at this point as he started getting technical talking frequencies and stuff - hey I'm only a singer! ) means if I wire into the xt subs FIRST then use the link from the sub to the top XT2's I will still be at 4 ohms and safe.
This sound right to you?
See I was wiring the other way round ( stupid dogbot! )

Found you on a google search - love forums - arent they so useful!
I cant return the favour on here as I have no real knowledge of these things as you can tell - but if anyone ever has any scirocco related problems - then I can be off assistance!
Thanks in advance.

Hello, and welcome to the forum.

Yes, if your subs have a dedicated output for your top speakers, by connecting to your subs first you will probably find that this will give a load of 4 ohms per side (and not hurt your amp!).

Let us know how you get on.

hope someone else can back that up?
My 2 xt tops have an input and an output 2, so thought the same applied wiring into the tops 1st, but it seems not........... anyone else?
will pop onto the intro section in a tick!
BTW

It would be nice to introduce yourself rather than advertising your own forum. Admin

yes its perfectly correct to say that your bass bins fitted with passive crossovers will continue to show 4ohms at the amp when the tops are connected to them, but as you have found out the reverse is not true. The in and out sockets on your tops are just a parallel connection to enable you to connect another pair of tops as well (this will then give you 2 ohms).

Yes im a Peavey owner/user-

Plug into the back of the subs from amp then take the high pass filter outlet to the sattelite tops. Make sure the wiring is correct inside the speakons or it wont work.

The lead from the amp to sub is wired differently to the sattelite lead.

What a horrible waste of a super mixer amp:eek:

Hi Nile
I use my Peavey ul system the same way - amp to subs input , then sub output to tops input with no problems. As Crazy K says check the speakon wiring as sub output is usually different with speakon outputs(i.e normal speakons are wired+1/-1 sub output on mine are +2/-2 this just entales changing one end of the lead that links subs with tops wiring into the speakon plug from+1 to+2 and-1 to -2 remember to mark that end for ease of setting up).

Hope your amp is repairable.

aw your all so kind!
seems its a simple case of me wiring back to front. My 500XT Subs are both jack input and output, my XT2 tops are both Speakons. Since I had a link from Top to bottom already working i.e jack to speakon, I assume it will be fine in place but just working as a bottom to top. Obviosuly plugged into the correct input / outputs!
I Will keep my existing speaker leads for when I dont use the bins in smaller places, and make up some new jack to jack speaker leads to plug straight in to the 500 xt subs.
Hopefully the amp will live again! so dont worry!
BTW I didnt mean to upset anyone with mentioning my scirocco stuff - but I cant payback help too much on here as I have no / little knowledge. Just thought If anyone happens to ahve a rocco problem I can pay back the kindness.
Anyhow have introduced on the newbies forum as requested and am glad I found this place - being new I can hopefully pick the brains of the more learned..... ;-)

cheers
