Howdy do!
I'll stick with my stage name if thats ok - Nile Hollis.
I started as a bass player in bands at the grand old age of 10
Tried to be a pop star until my early twenties when we all fell out, some of the guys tried again and nearly made it, but not quite - hey ho.
I drifted thru cover bands in me twenties and got miffed off with it all and pretty must jacked in apart from the odd emergency phone call here and there where the bass player had died / lost a leg / eaten by a tiger whetever escuse they had. Never really been a singer, but kinda fell into it thru karaoke :bang: DOH!
Anyhow been singing on me own now for 8 years ish, from pubs to Haven camps ( just come back from a tour of haven in wales) but times is tough and gigs are harder to come by since the smoking ban and the current depression the goverment says we are not going through  means no-one has money and everyone including the big camps is cutting back.
So some-one offered me a local weekly karaoke gig running there own gear. So i started that. But it became obvious it needed not just karaoke but DJing too, plus folk were asking me to do other gigs. so to keep me from karaoke hell and keep my sanity i decided to encompass all 3 ( singing / karaoke / dj) So built me own case ( couldnt find one the right size) to contain a Laptop/ hercules mixer / Behringer desk / hard drive / power supplies / radio mic etc. And started ' fiddling '. Its a bit hit and miss and am still working within the confines of my first setup, which I already want to alter - but not quite yet! Walk before you run as they say! But am learning!
Find the continous music mixing more interesting. Love it when it works! You guys who do it with CD's rock!
Rediscovered old dance music as in dance anthem classics ( i know at 39 as well!) and am really loving some of the new dance stuff. Also Trance ( how old am i! ) Absolutley love ( sarcasm!) when someones asks for cheese - but I suppose thats the nature of the new direction I have take - bet there are songs which some of you more experienced guys REALLY love - to death! :bang: :bang: :bang:
At the mo trying to work out a way of using samples more. VDJ is limited on the way you can introduce samples, the ideal way i suppose would be another laptop running another VDJ linked to beat match to the first ( if this was poss) and onto another channel on the mixer to introduce loops samples etc, but I may also get my arms tangled up! Not because I really need too - but because its a challenge.
Found a Westwood siren sample the other day - SOOOOO funny! Just used it as a laugh - but the " kids" loved it - I must be told old to understand! :D
Anyhow thanks for all your help guys. Sorry if I upset the admin by mentioning my forum, didnt intend to and wasnt plugging - but scirocco's is the only thing I can offer help with!
Cheers all
Nile

I think Callum was making a comparison to your in-depth post, and the in-depth posts of one of our other regular members (Shakermaker). :) :beer1:
