Bright lights!

Last weekend i attended a friends wedding.
It was the first time in a while i have been a guest at a disco, as usually im dj'ing.
The lights the dj was using actually hurt my eyes, which doesn't usually happen.
I use Abstract 250w and Acme (Impossibled) gear myself and have never had this problem when looking at my own rig, but i actually left early, as i ended up feeling ill.
I think he had a pair of NJD Datamoons, which seemed to spend most of their time stuck with the gobo wheel on the open/white setting, and they were aimed, as per usual with a moonflower, onto the dancefloor.
The trouble was the room was small, and even when i was sitting down off the dancefloor, they were right in my face.

Anybody else experienced this with these lights/situation?

As he was a friend, couldn't you have said something?

And no, haven't really had that problem although was once asked to 'angle' one of my lights down as it was right in someones face (an elderly lady) so I did. I always keep an eye out for where my lights are shining as it can be very annoying.

Them moons is bright!

I use them for weddings and other parties where there's a high incidence of slower dances. They spend most of the night switched off. But in smaller rooms I'll normally use just one, directed right into the middle of the dancefloor. They're too bright for pointing into crowds - especially, as you pointed out, when set to white.

I've never experienced this problem but i too do my best to ensure my lighting stays on the dance floor. i know it's not nice to be sat down and have 250w in your face every 30secs so i try to aim my more powerful lights down at the dance floor.

Datamoons have a dimmer switch to save bulb life I'm surprised he didn't put them on the lower setting, I know what you are saying about the white light although it shouldn't be on all the time, one day when I've got the time I want to open mine up and see if I can change the white to blue or violet colour anyone know if that's possible ?

I've done that with my EVL spins - nice bit of dichroic glass - now all nice and orangey!

You can get a small hand controller now and I'm pretty sure as well as slowing the movement, you can dim the colours etc too.

Don't forget these were your old ones, not sure if they have anywhere to plug into ? where would you get such a controller ?
Still quite fancy making the white blue or mauve though.

I used to have a controller with them but not the one I am talking about. Is there a jack or XLR input on the back of the Datamoons - I can't remember!
