Hi!

Have been thinking over the last couple of days, i would like a mirror ball to use my scanners with as this would offer some lighting for slower songs, but i would also like an impossibled...

So what would you advise me getting first?

My current set-up is:

4x Acme Dynamos
2x Acme Magic Gobos

Thanks!

Thanks for your feedback! :)

I thought that would be the case... Any idea what size? i've found some 30" ones and some 20" ones... I was thinking about putting possibly a 20" in the center of my rig... I've attatched an image so you can see!

Thanks,

Ollie :)

lol, i've been looking at other set-ups, such as Tony's partyshopdisco's one. I like the way that they have been set-up and lit. Does anyone know the size of these?

Thanks

I assume that's diameter?

I'm still unsure...

The impossibled is a great unit, however i don't really have any lighting (without programming them) that are suitable for slower songs...

Something cheap and effective for that, could be a UV tube.

I see. tough question then.

I do like the mirror ball but it just seems like so much setting up for my liking. i remember i used a ball for 1 gig before getting rid due to the time and effort it took to position all the pin spots (this was some time ago). I think they look great when done correctly but it takes alot of time and effort.

You will also have to program the scanners so you can focus them at the ball.

Although a big fan of the ImpossibLED I would go for 1 or maybe 2 mirror balls. They shouldn't need too much setting up if you have dedicated spots.
This is probably going to be my next project or maybe even 1 or 2 of these (http://www.electromarket.co.uk/products.asp?partno=SUNRAY2) instead :)

Hya Ollie, why not both?
You could put the mirror ball on a hanging bracket in the center and put the impossibled above and bolt directly to the truss.
You dont have to have all on at the same time, maybe use the mirror ball for the slow stuff and in conjunction with a UV light lower down?

Thanks for all your input :)

Karl, that's a good idea, however the issue is money haha!

The impossibled would be good for younger audiences as not many slower songs would be played, and i do more younger gigs than i do older ones.

I really like the idea of using a mirror ball with scanners...

It needs some more consideration really. I think the best idea would be an impossibled, but i think the mirror ball with the scanners would give more of a wow factor..

At the end of the day, if i want to use scanners and a mirror ball, i'll have to pay around £30 for mirror ball & £80 for DMX controller; total: around £110. I can get an Impossibled for around £125, so not much difference in price all together.

they had something like this in one of the clubs at glastonbury- about 8 of them- like the old 80s clay paky lights you could get.

What about a mirror ball and then get a dmx controller and program the dynamos to fire at the ball when you are wanting to do the slow stuff perhaps?

Yeah, that had crossed my mind, but as i said, a mirror ball, motor and controller would be over £100 anyway, so i could just get an impossibled...

At the end of the day, i need to think about what fixture i'd really get good use out of.
