Less is better ???

Since moving onto the cortex and Micromax stand I have also reduced the amount of lights taken to most functions.

Now only using 2 led par cans, 1 acme boogie led and 2 acme firebirds. The result - 8 gigs and 3 people praising the lighting. Normally people are really not interested i the lighting so think getting 3 people commenting out of 8 is pretty good going.

Granted I have lately been doing more elderley birthdays and weddings but people seem to prefer my setup to be more minimalistic. 2 of the people have actualy commented on not having too many 'silly flashing lights'.

For me the benefits are great - 25 min setup, alone, if easy access.

Have an 18th on friday so thing a bigger setup will be needed there but just goes to show that having loads of expensive lighting is not always neccesary.

agree with you- neat, tidy and effective is the way forward.
if it takes less time to rig/de-rig then thats a bonus.

I find I'm taking out my 2ft stand more often now, with only 1.25m overhead. Using 2 barrels and an LED effect, with a few LED pars.

but

I love to have a gig every so often where I can use the 5ft stand, and use more, so as Andy said realy, there is a place for everything.

I am the same. I don't take much lighting to my gigs now either. Thats because the LED lights fill such a large space. Good thing in my books.

Normaly take 6 or 7 but tend not to have them all on at once, mix & match to the music.

most of my work is weddings.

the majority of these are hotels where there is no "stage" so its all about maximum effect for minimum intrusion into the room.

therefore a goalpost, mirror ball, 4 scanners, 1 led effect do the job most of the time.

if it needs to be bigger i can add a few other effects but dont tend to nowadays very often.

I've been using the "less is more" approach for the last few years. My 'equipment appearance' rating on my feedback form has improved since cutting back on what I use. 'Minimalistic' is the new black. :D

I'm now taking less for a lot of jobs in the way of lighting - 4 Acme Scans (Scimitar and Leos), ProTwin fired at the ceiling and usually one other light - my white double-barreled Chauvet usually. Fills most venues with light and looks great. The Acme's are on 2 T-bars too.

2x ImpossibLEDS (without truss, just placed directly onto the vertical micromax pole)
2x I-250s Moving Heads.
That's been my set-up for the last couple of gigs.

Sometimes I'll add another 2 or 4 Imove moving heads, which I like to use to add a bit of mood lighting (I really got to get myself some LED pars..lol) I've added a pic below from a few weeks ago. Now, I know many will think that there's too many lights down low as opposed to overhead, but this exactly the subtle look I prefer for weddings. For 18th's and 21sts I'll add trussing and place a couple of the movers on the truss alongside some scanners.

Yes, those are the rotating ones.

I now only use two lights on my speakers and two moving heads on speaker stands, Which has cut down setting up, space i use and looks much neater.
