I know that some people on these forums dabble in making their own speaker boxes - are any of them near(ish) my neck of the woods and available for a chat?

I find myself wanting to move towards more and smaller speakers, e.g. four 8" and two smaller horns split between two boxes rather than a single 15" and large horn in one box.

Mackie's S408 has a 4x8" in one box to replace a single 15" and the S410 has 4x10" to replace a single 18" - same idea but in two boxes each, rather than just one.
