The new Pioneer MEp7000 player and controller

Has anyone yet tried, or thinking of trying the new pioneer mep7000 player/controller. It seems to be quite good, but very expensive.

Its only the same price as the Denon HD2500 with the BU4500.

Its very good, and I've used it quite a bit, and had input on its development too.

At the end of the month it'll be at DJ Show North (http://www.djshownorth.co.uk - Thats got to be worth a :beer1: Paul :D), which is in your home town, so pop along and take a look.

Any specific questions on it, just ask.

thanks for coming back. I thought the Denon HD2500 was cheaper than the pioneer. The cheapest pioneer I've seen is £1169.99.

I understand the pioneer can play karaoke files.

The HD2500 is around £695 and the CD drawers to go with it (to make it equivilant of the MEP 7000) are around £330ish, so together the Denon is around £1025ish, and the Pioneer one is being advertised around £1200, so still a little more expensive.
Plus points for the MEP 7000 is the colour screen, the facility to use an external monitor, it can play karaoke files, it will play mp3's from DVD's, and you've got full function control while using the CD's too (ie, scratch and effects unlike the Denon combo).

Do you think the price will come down with time, as I am thinking of buying one. Also are there any glitches with reading the data from computer? Like tag info and such, where you have to do a lot of prep work in advance.

My antique (ahem!) LaserDisc player is Pioneer as are all of the LaserDiscs that I have (I think!). I still have a set of Pioneer CD+Gs with some classic tracks on them.

I would recommend Pioneer kit too! They are a bit like Philips in that they are at the forefront of innovation.

Not at the moment, I don't really need it, just really want it LoL, its a lot to spend for the sake of it, so holding off for the moment.

It's looking good, the karaoke facility is impressive... but no mention of MP3-G? I mean it's a good feature to be able to switch to karaoke mode, but if you can only play CD-Gs, it seems like they're only going halfway with it. I wonder what the KJs here think?

Although Denon were the first in with the impressive HD2500, it wasn't without it's glitches and problems. Most, if not all of them have been ironed out now though, so the release of this Pioneer player could be interesting.

Also, a point that Beerfunk made - will it play mp3+g?

Having had another 2 crashes on VDJ in the last 2 weeks, I am ready to move away from DJ software and this, with its VGA output looks like the solution.

Without the CD drawers, its purely a controller, so will control any software you have Darren. The SEP will be £599, the SEP only has a USB in and a monitor, all audio will have to be run through a soundcard as normal, like a normal PC system, unlike the DNHD2500/DNHC4500.

The MEP 7000 does not play MP3+G

I had a good look at NDJ show and DJSN. Adam Forgie is a good person to ask about these things as I was interested in buying one but he pointed out a couple of things that Pioneer didn't think of or you can't do on them..

The thing is after using the CDJ1000's (yes, I know they're a different thing) pioneer seem to have a logical one press per button layout for things where as with the Denon you have to press once to select press again to activate whatever you've selected etc etc.

Not when I've been using it. It was due to be released with additional firmware to support it, but unsure on it to be honest, I've always just used the onboard menues.

Will have to check on that one!

Yes, since my original post, the latest firmware update (2.02 for both the control & drive unit), enables shortcut keys and searching from a USB keyboard, and also making searching easier when not using a keyboard. Also it is now native with Serato Scratch Live 1.9.
I was involved with the software update, to make sure the MEP 7000 has everything we as mobile DJs need.
