MYTEC (McGregor) Speaker systems

The local DJ shop has got some of these in and WOW they are loud and clear. Just wondering if you guys had either heard these on the road as I am thinking of getting a set.

I considering getting the Mytec210 system that has 2 subs each with 2 x 10" drivers and an 8" top. This is rated at 650 watts rms per side.
It sounds nice in the shop although it is a small shop but not sure on the road. Physically it is small but apparently that is because they use some special new metal for the drivers. The full set is £899 so I am a little cautious about laying out the money.
I like the idea of them being compact but I need a big sound for the type of work I do. These look nice and fit in to the corporate image I portray but looking good isn't everything.

Comments please irrispective of if you have heard them or not.

The "new metal" would be neodymium, which is a lot lighter than many other metals...

I would say the 10" subs would not give you the "big sound" you're after - to be honest you want at least a 15" driver to get good response at low frequencies...

Havent heard the systems, wasnt even aware McGregor still made speakers!!! The only thing I have heard is a pair of 15 yr old DJ monitors at a club i occasionally DJ at - so thats not very helpful. (They sound rubbish but are very old and sticky).

Well they're going to be at DJ Show North, so perhaps they're aiming at the DJ market again. Now heard them, but guess I will at the end of the month.

I actually have 2 McGregor amps and they virtually bomb proof.
I was surprsed by the power from the bins but they do have 2 x 10" drivers. I know it isn't the same as 1 x 20" but it must be more powerful. The do the version with the 2 x 12" and the top of the range with 2x15" in each bin and that is rated at 2.6k but getting a bit pricey at £2800 for that set I believe. when / where is the dj north show?

I've used a McGregor mixer-amp for my last 1,000 quiz nights, and it's loud, clear & reliable.

I don't know about their speakers, but if they are anything like as good as their mixer amps, then they MUST be good!

My local dealer here in Liverpool demo'd me all 3size set ups a couple of weeks back and I thought they were impressive.

I particularly liked the astetics of them, they look upmarket and smart.

They make d@mn good stuff - I've a pair of older PS15/400 cabs and I love them - indeed they are bombproof. Also a nice blue colour.

I am going the other way. I am all Peavey at the moment and considering changing to the McGregor. Got one of my pairs of Peavey pro15 cabs on ebay at the moment. Like the idea of the MyTec due to the size. I am hanging back until after the show to see what they sould like in a big room as the size of venues I play are about the same size as the show venue. 400 -1000 capacity. If I am impressed there I will be getting some.

I have the double 10 system with amp/mixer to go with it and believe me they blow my big heavy 15" peavey pro set up away

All the main bass guitar manufacturers are making these neodymium speaker cabs now, and they are amazing - so light and small, but with a hell of a thump! so much so, a lot of players are moving from 4x10 and 1x15 rigs to just a 2x10 cab thats the size of a sports bag!

theyre very expensive though - but I see this type of speaker coming more and more into the DJ market soon, especially for subs. also, theyre producing 1000w amps that are the size of a small laser light and light as a feather - we may be able to carry in our full rigs in two hands in the next few years! :)

Depends on the design of the driver, if the 10"s have a high 'x-max' value (the distance a driver can travel back and forth) and the cab has been designed well then they will go very low regardless of the size of driver.

Also 2x10" would have a larger surface area and move more air than a single 15".

....that said I pefer a nice meaty 18" or 21" for big boy bass! :D ......PD186, PD1850, Void etc. etc.

I have also been lucky enough to hear all the mc gregor range at the glasgow sound centre.I was so impressed that i have reserved a pair of the double 10.Now for such a small compact system its amazing.I thought at first its too small but after hearing it i changed my mind.The double 10 base is lound with plenty of base and the top is so clear its hard to believe.

Very light weight compared to my peavey subs and tops.

Tonight was my first gig with my new mytec 210,Have to say it sounds amazing,so loud and clear for such a small sound ststem.The load in\out was far easier also because of the reduced size and weight.

Well worth the £899 spent.

No it wouldn't, a 15" speaker has a area of 177 sq in, a 10" speaker has an area of 78.50 sq in, multiply this by 2 and you get 157 sq in, a full 20 sq in LESS! back to school for you :D (3.14 x r x r)
