Am I becoming too modern?

I have done a bad thing! I had to have a look at Saturday's wedding venue, so while I was in the area, got a couple of shirts, and wondered if I ought to have a look at these newfangled lights with dots in? So, since I had carefully acquired the comfy motor, off I went to a place I know and had a look at this Revo Roll effort. Does what it says on the tin, so yes I'll have one. So far so good. Then I made the mistake of looking at the Kam LED Boxes. Oh dear!:( :( :( I took the ex demo 800, at £50 off list, out they go tonight, I'll probably get piccies tomorrow. So now I just need to get a few more gigs to pay for them, the Pro dub which will be this week, and life in general.
It's very expensive, this 21st century, isn't it? :confused: :( Should I have stayed with the lightscreens, spotboxes, and CD's I wonder? :confused: :confused: :confused:

Anyway, I have seen the future, and it's got spots. ;) ;) Both the KAM and the Revo are awesome. My future lighting rig is definitely going to be based on these two items. I loved them, so did customers, what more can one ask?
I got the Rectangular KAM, rather than the bar, and for what I want, it's perfect.

Oh no. Eight individual sections of LEDs, Red Green and Blue, DMXable, last night running sound to light it supplied quite a lot of light output, ran fantastic patterns, and drew some favourable comments. Also the physical shape suits what I want to do with it.

On saturday night Peter is covering a gig for me at The Portland Hotel in Hull. It would be excellent to see some pictures.

I have been down to the hotel this evening to drop a PA mixer and the American DJ SDJ1 off. As the hotel have requested background music for the daytime reception.

If the hotel manager hasnt shown you already peter there is a switch on the wall. to turn the mirrorball on.

I am never quite sure which way to take it when people offer to put their effects on ! Dont I have enough ? I do but they make me think I dont.

The worst thing tha thappened to me with own gear was just as I was about to start a wedding evening disco and someone plugged the jukebox in and turned it on ! I soon drowned that out :bang:

There's a big difference between using venue's lighting effects & using their (presumerably hard installed) mirror ball.

I think all of our DJs (myself included obviously) carry ample lighting for the jobs we do. However, if there's a mirrorball installed in the venue you betya I'm gonna use it!

While I agree that it's nice to have the option of using venue lighting, I'm puzzled and upset that I appear to be the only one on here who hates mirrorballs with a vengeance! :confused: :( :( I think they're a throwback to a time we're supposed to have left behind, and should only be used if we're going for a retro feel ( like Lightboxes? :D :D )

Classy? You have got to be kidding? The numbers of people holding diametrically opposed views to me suggests I may have difficulty converting anyone to my viewpoint, but in my own mind they are a pain. Especially the installs where one light is out, one is missing, and the other two don't actually point at the blasted contraption! That's just my opinion of course. :D

Last night my Denon DN-D4000 got some wet inside it. Dunno how. So the right drive on the player started kicking off. lights flashing oddly and allsorts
Then one cd started to jump nastily.

So i plugged my laptop in the right channel of the X500 so got through the gig on the left hand drive of the 4000 and the laptop.

Ive currently got the denon out of the flightcase and running cds through it for a while and it seems to be working ok now.

i think it might have been condensation making circuits on the player. So not taking the risk again. I am buying a new road ready case to keep the kit better protected.

Ive had the Denon 4000 5 years now and before last night i have never had any problems with it.

should be back to normal now.

I would have loved to , but we actually started the Disco half an hour early, I was plugging the laptop in and making announcements, whilst getting changed and taking requests! Multitasking or what? I was unable to play with it at all, but it looked a useful bit of kit. Sadly, the fact that a Cortex is the same price militates strongly against buying one for me.

Payment details should have reached your e-mail, if mine did its job this morning. No problems covering it, it was an education to load up outside a City Centre Hotel, and see some of the passers by! :eek: ;) ;) :D :D I think I fitted in alright, Nicola was calling me John by the end of the night. :D ( Somebody else was calling me Steve, so I basically answered to just about anything)

By the way, how much do the Hotel charge for internet access? The laptop found a very smart looking network, shook hands, went for a drink, and then was told to go to reception to get access! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!
