Just had a call for a urgent Disco

They phoned me asking if i would come do a disco as there other DJ just let them down..

So i say Yes no problem i can come right out.

They said how much are you gonna charge me.

i was like HMMM...

£250 with call out fee

there like no way we have not got that much money

so i said see as your round the corner i will do it £180

there still like nah to much

So i ask how much are you looking for they said

£100

i said i aint going any where for £100 late call out

they said they would ring me back but nothing

wounder how much the other was gonna charge them LOL

Quite easily. If I have got the night off and my brain is in the mood for a relaxed evening and I have suddenly got to chase around to cover some one else's muck up then I want some compensation for My inconvenience.

I charge my normal fee as i feel this is only fair,
If i get a phone call at 7:00pm that the dj has let them down and i have the night off i won't do it if i don't have to as i have experienced it before when you get to the venue and the guests give you the slow clap as you walk through the door and think that you are late.

Exactly these gigs are aggro and unless you are desparate for the money or the experience then they should command a premium on my normal price.

Years ago round here there was a rash of discos taking kids parties to fill a slack night, and then getting a full fee gig, and dropping the kids party, I've had to fill a few of those. :bang:

If somebody rings you because theyve been let down by another DJ, as in any other job, you are then in the driving seat. If you want to do it great - go for it. If you dont then youre under obligation no to do them a favour!
As its you who will be doing the hard work and sacrificing what you already had planned, youre more than entitled to charge what you want. If they dont want to pay then thats their problem! If they want loyalty etc they should have booked you in the first place!

We regularly help customers whom have been let down at very short notice, where we have the available resource and they have a credit/debit card and a fax machine or email & scanner to return signed paperwork.

Makes for good customer service. :)

IF I was expecting a DJ who I booked at my function and he didn't turn up and I had to get someone else pretty sharpish...first of all I would be both happy and flippin' surprised if someone was actually available at such short notice and secondly, I wouldn't be haggling over the phone on prices. If the function was that important and a potential disaster then I would cough up the price within reason.

IF I was the DJ that was rung and had agreed to go at the drop of a hat then I would state over the phone that I would want payment upon arrival too.

In this case, I would not have budged from my original quote over the phone no matter what.

We often get calls for emergency/very last minute bookings and always charge an extra 25% on top the normal prices. It's only right when you haven't been given the time to properly prepare for the gig.

I couldn't understand why he kept dropping his prices. By continuously dropping the prices, if I were the client I would have come to the conclusion that
a) The initial price had been hugely inflated to begin with
b) The DJ was desperate to land the gig.

No wonder the client kept on haggling. Price was dropped by a hundred pounds, is it any wonder they thought they could get it dropped even further?.

Rowley, you should have stuck at £250.


Here's what I would have done....
Customer: "Can you come and do a disco. How much will it be"
Me: "Certainly Sir, cost for the evening will be £xxx"
Customer: "No way, we don't have that much money"
Me: "I'm sorry to hear my fee is outside your budget, but the prices are non-negotiable, Sir. Thank you for your call and best of luck in your search for a suitable DJ."

End Call, grab a beer, feet up.....relax.

This very classy venue was in Leicester and my conversation went very much the same as above with the exception of one other question; "were you offered a contract by the people who have let you down?" Their reply was negative of course, and I then recommended they have a peep at the MDD for a list of local DJs to contact and to expect to pay a little more for the service as it was needed at the last minute. The organiser was very grateful and asked me to pop in when in the area to show them a copy of our contract with T & C's. This approach may lead to further biz, I hope.
