Another new scam UPS parcels

You're not alone, Crazy.

I keep getting them as well, including one yesterday and a couple more this morning.

Obviously I just delete them & don't unzip their "invoices" for fear of what they might contain!

I love their use of the phrase "We therefore reckoned"...which is not something you see in too many solicitors letters!

For anyone wondering about this scam, the idea is that when you've provided your details, they ask you to pay an up front admin fee to cover court costs, legal fees etc (possibly even a four figure sum) before being able to send your funds.

Surprise surprise...once they've received your payment, you never hear from them again, and they then move onto the NEXT person with an IQ lower than their shoe size.

I hope you've tried to open it with the protection of really good anti-virus software as it's likely to be a trojan virus - possibly rootkit, keylogger or spambot. Just because it doesn't seem to have opened the attachment doesn't mean that your PC is not infected now. This is exactly how my laptop became a spam zombie and, believe me, it's not a pleasant experience when the first you know of it is when your ISP suddenly blocks your outgoing emails because your blacklisted on XBL.

As I often mess around with these scam merchants I have a PC set up for the job and im not botherd if it gets ill as I have my main machine as back up. Its called "scam baiting" and can be a good laugh waisting their time and effort. check this out http://www.419eater.com/

I contacted Barclays a long time ago about scam e mails

As I recall thats was a waste of time-

Probably installed without you being aware, which could be a proplem unless you did it on an isolated 'experimental' computer, as I have done in the past with viruses.

I quite like messing with these attachments actually - I have such a test computer, and if it gets infected, I just run Killdisk from a DOS floppy and reinstate an image.

But yes - these UPS e-mails have become commonplace in my inbox in recent weeks.

I didnt open the attachment. To let you all know. Im not that stupid :D Avast! automaticaly scans all incoming emails and thats how i found out the infomation :)

Exactly what I was thinking.

I was caught unawares by a trojan just like this earlier this year. It was a few weeks before I even noticed it. The first thing that was odd was that I was getting emails from myself! (well, from one email address to another). Another week or so went by and I tried to send an important email and it was refused saying it was listed in XBL. I followed the delisting instructions in SpamHaus and everything was fine - at least for the four hours it took to get listed again!

Everything's fine now (after a complete reinstall, using back-ups but losing about 5 days work as I only backed up weekly then but incremental back-ups are done nightly now! Once bitten and all that!).

My advice for anyone getting these emails is to delete them. They're not worth taking a chance with because technology and programming is advancing at such a rate that some of the anti-virus companies are finding it hard to keep up (I was reading this about an hour ago!)
