Advise needed please.

hi everyone, hope you are all well.
Can someone please answer this question.

I have been playing arround with a free trial of dj sofware.
Today at home i tried playing my laptop through my mixer via the headphone socket on the laptop.
Now, i have found some old posts on here about using a external sound card devise, which will also mean, that i would be able to cue the tracks up, using te headphone sockets on the mixer.
I understand that the external sound card woulld sound better, but here is my question.

When using using the headphone socket on the laptop into the mixer, the volume is lower than when playing the same track from cd in the mixer,
so, DOES USING AN EXTERNAL SOUND CARD BOOST THE VOLUME FROM THE LAPTOP.?

Maybe I've got it wrong here, but my external soundcard connects via a USB output, not the audio/headphone output. I use a DJ I/O from Numark and it sounds good, can split audio for master and monitor (if using a USB 2.0) only drawback is the Microphone channel which is a bit basic (but get-roundable...I put the soundcard into a mixer prior to amp, and go throughthe mixer with the Mic)

Yes i know that the sound card goes via the usb port, but i have NOT purchased one yet.
That's why i ran the from the headphone socket.

Is the Newmark dj io compatible with Vista?.

as a rule the sound from your CD player will be a little richer and louder. Dont forget though you can boost the signal to level your PC to CD by turning up the volume on your laptop (usually 'speaker' icon in the bottom right of windows).

I usually find about volume 60 levels them, but i suppose its equipment specific.

You can do this by going to:

control Panel
Audio Or Sounds
Select the soundcard you are using.
Volume - Then set the volume to the desired level.

As i said in the above posts, i put the laptop volume to max, checked the speaker settings, etc etc.
BUT i only had the gain controlls on the dj software at halfway.:bang:

I presume that i can put the gain controls on the dj software to max, because the mixer has gain controlls, and the mixer gain controlls will be the master ones?

I wouldn't recommend pushing the laptop volume too far as this can result in a distorted sound. I always have this set at about 95% and use the mixer gains and volumes to boost the sound. I find that if the gains on VDJ are pushed high then the sound is really distorted so I always avoid this situation.

On my main laptop, I don't use an external soundcard as it has a soundcard built in to its spec as well as intergrated audio through it's Realtek High Def Audio chip. All of my other laptops have external audio via USB SoundBlaster devices which do the job well.
