ebay query

I am trying to buy some American Flags to use in connection with my business.

Saw an e bay ad---One American Flag £5

I need 3 so I e mailed the seller to say how do I place the order --I dont want to go through the "buy now" procedure 3 times--in fact I want a total of 7 different flags.

So the seller says he can do me a deal of xxx including postage.

I then innocently ask for the procedure and he says send me a cheque payable to e bay traderxxxxxxxxx to this addressxxxxxxxxi

I couldnt help noticing this on the ebay header

Do not respond to the sender if this message requests that you complete the transaction outside of eBay. This type of offer is against eBay policy, may be fraudulent, and is not covered by buyer protection programs. Learn More :eek: :eek: :eek:

Has anyone else had this problem--I dont think there is a facility for ordering more than one item on ebay when you click on the buy now stage---because it wont show the correct price.

I understand of course this appears to be an invitation to go direct and if it goes wonky I wont have any come back.

Also he asked for my email address!

IF the listing says that the seller has X number of items for sale, when you click 'buy now' you get the option of changing the quantity required.

The only problem then is the postage as you'd expect a reduced rate for multiples of the same thing and you're then relying on the seller being generous and giving you a reduction.

Where it gets complex is when you then want to buy other items from the same seller.

Why not ask them to put up a special listing just for you, say "Pack of 7 assorted flags for Crazy" with an agreed B-I-N price?


Is it a registered business? If they've asked you to send a cheque can you not do a little research on the address given so you have somewhere to go in the event of small claims?

I dont know what a registered business means Martin, its not limited.

Years ago you HAD to have a REGISTERED BUSINESS NAME certificate which I did have personally-- but that died off about 20 years ago.

Yes I am buying various items and no, there is no provision for 6 of those and 3 of those.

Anyway he has said he will amend the invoice so Im going to hit buy now and send a cheque with an explanation.

The address apppears to be a prvate one,much as you might expect.

Ill take a flyer--he lives in Romford--im doing a gig there 2 weeks Thursday so if he doesnt deliver ill take the boys round there

I'm pretty sure this is correct.

Also, if the seller offers a postage discount for multiple purchases, I believe this is applied automatically.

If they are asking for a cheque, I wouldn't go ahead with the transaction.

If the flags don't arrive you'll have no purchase protection & little chance of a refund, as the transaction would be outside ebay's terms & conditions.

I'd either get them to accept Paypal or find an alternative seller.

RESULT

I decided to take a flyer--could always make a visit if necessary--got the flags BY RETURN OF POST--even though I sent a cheque---top e bayer.

Even got 2 extra flags I didnt order:D
