Does anybody else find this annoying

I had this on Friday night, it was early in the night, most people were in the beer garden because of the hot weather, i had about 7 girls in their late teens early 20's dancing, I was playing stuff like , dirty, hips dont lie, gasolina, kylie wow. I then partied it up slightly, belinda carlisle, tiffany etc and they were still dancing, so i played no good advice, (still dancing) and followed good advice with ting tings, thats not my name and soon as ting tings came on they looked at me and gave me the cut throat signal and thumbs down.

In my oponion if you are prepared to dance to to tiffany, girls aloud and belinda carlisle, whats the problem with the ting tings. It was almost like they were too cool to dance to them!

I just find it annoying,

the ting tings are utter utter cack and i personally would need to be heavily disguised as a womp rat in order to be seen dancing to it ...... which incidentally having heard the track i'm not sure is actually possible???

fact is some people like certain songs and not others ive had gigs where i swear i could put 2 tracks on repeat all night and no one would mind???

the cut throat thing is rude and annoying but .... welcome to the youth culture of modern britain :D :D :D

I just laugh at them and play the rest of the song out of spite :p

Make an announcement along the lines of "I thought I'd give you chance to go and grab a drink or go to the loo" :beer1:

I like 'That's Not My Name' but it hasn't actually got a particularly danceable groove unlike the others mentioned.

It has the same rhythm as Girls Aloud 'No Good Advice' which is why i play them back to back, Toni Basil Mickey works after it well too.

We all make the wrong song choice even with expert reading the floor skills, You win some and you loose some, the next function on it might work or it might not, you will always get different crowds where you will play stuff what works and stuff that won't.

I'm not too keen on 'thats not my name', but 'Shut up and let me go' seems to down well with me.

Say something like 'Who requested that one', and move on to the next one, but ensure its one they like a floor filler.

I've found 'That's Not My Name' to work really well for me so far. When you hear it on the radio, it's kind of annoying, but when it's played loud on a good sound system, the percussion and bass make it so much better! Hat off to whoever produced it. Because of that, I've found it to really drive people to dance once it gets into full swing.

I had a guy square up to me 2 weeks ago for playing a bride's request of "Things can only get better".He claime it was "A Labour Song" and Did I really want him to vote :Censored: labour.

I simply ask for requests.
If i dont get any requests then I play it by ear.

Then if they come at the end of the night and say it was crap then I reply "Well I asked for requests, what more could I do?"

Be a deejay and use your skill and expertise and experience to guess what will please them. Its what good dj's do.

Yeah when I worked in clubs it was recognized that a tempo/genre change periodically was good for bar sales.

they clearly didnt enjoy it, you get it everywhere, you cannot play tracks and keep everyone happy it dont happen, my home made mash up are on popular demand at the minute, 80s - 90s vocals over funky organ house, had acouple of people tell me how good they sound, cheers damian

I had one where I played exactly what they wanted, not one person on the dance floor, then played H.S.M. and every single person was on the floor singing at the tops of their voices. Does make me wonder sometimes.

Same here...ignore them and make a joke over the mic about it. The 'thought I'd give you a rest' one usually works for me too.

I had someone do this to me last night but slightly different... I was playing a Ska/Punk version of 'Hotel California' by Less than Jake and a girl came up to me and said "Gary, what have YOU done to this song?"...as if it was actually ME that had recorded it!!!?? She then did the cut throat thing and gave me the 2 fingered salute but it was in jest as I know her. Later on I thanked her for the abuse and said that it had been requested...which was true.

I find that people who are dancing who then do the cut throat thing and then walk off the dancefloor usually think that we are playing just to them...ignore them, it's the best way.

Had that very same thing a couple of months back at a 21st. Girl came up started telling me off for playing some 80s stuff and said so-n-so don't like this 'sh!t'... I said 'turn around' she said 'what' I said 'the dance floor is full of people who obviously do like it!'....

She kept comong back throughout the night, each time I was either playing something from the birthday girl's requests or a guests request and she'd TELL (not ask) TELL me to change it. I told her if she wants to make a request then ask me for a particular track, else go away or she may end up being the DJ...!!! Each time, the dance floor was buzzing!

She finally made a request bout 1am!

Can't please 'em all, all of the time. And there's always one!!!!

Yes, so true. This is true even of some brides n grooms who think just because they like indie or RnB, that they should get that all night long, and thier guests (from toddlers to gradparents) should be happy with it.

It spoils it for us and for the guests if one or two insist on only thier choices of music being played. If they'd leave us to it and make the occasional 'sensible' request, we'll almost always prove to them we do actually know what we're doing...

had a dancefloor of bikers dancing to ting tings on Friday nite :):) only relented after ther kept badfgering me for it with one person a guitarist in a heavey metal band - needless to say I mentione dhis name for the request :):)
