Origin of the disco

Discotheques appeared around the time of World War 2 in Paris. They were illicit places where people gathered to listen to recorded music, usually cellars. One of these venues was called La Discotheque. Disco is an abbreviation and is descriptive of the type of dance music originating in the seventies. This form of entertainment became increasingly popular with the film Saturday Night Fever and everyone doing their John Travolta impersonations. Today, Disco is mainly associated with Mobile disco. With a mobile disco, music and lighting is taken to and arranged to suit the client.

And the reason is that there was a shortage of bands in Paris as so many musicians had been killed, fled the city or were in the forces. In the UK it was the raison d'etre for the Ivy Benson Band which was all female.

Does it really matter. After all as far as I know the informaton on wkipedia isn't subject to copyright. Although including the link to the full article wouldn't have been out of place.
