I was thinking of putting some black and yellow gaffa tape on the legs of my speaker and light stands to prevent people walking into them.

Whenever I have seen that done Garry, personally I've thought it looks horrible and more suited to a construction site!

If you can't avoid an exposed tripod leg, place a white gaffa right angle around it, much neater and pretty much the standard in corporate AV.

Yes white gaffa tape squared off on the floor is the general practice in the events industry.

I agree!!
1) You can't buy them in the UK
2) They look :Censored: I'd rather wrap a tripod in multi cououred rope lights than use a speaker skirt

I do beleive that you are leaving yourself wide open to a claim if anyone should trip over any speaker or lighting stand which is not clearly marked out on the floor with the correct warning tape ie yellow and black.

I am interested in the source of your defining "the correct warning tape" as yellow and black.

Whilst this tape is commonly used in commercial/industrial applications, and is great for defining marshalling lanes in a warehouse, within the entertainment/AV industry it is not normally used front of house, as it is aesthetically horrid and not particularly effective in low light/no light environments.

White gaffa is the standard within this industry, it looks much more presentable and is far more visible than black & yellow in the conditions I have described above.

At my day job I am an industrial cleaner. Dirty job but some one has to do it.....me. :(

We have yellow and black tape as well as red and white.

At work if we put up yellow and black tape it means that we are working in this area. You are allowed to enter the area with out permission. Red and white is no entry at all.

We also use yellow and black tape to warn people if there is a missing floor grating or if the floor is wet.

In my opinion as good as an idea marking the stands is - anybody careless/daft/drunk enough to knock/crash into a big speaker stand with a 3ft speaker on top is not going be stopped by some precautionary tape - especially in the dark. :)

Id definitely be blocking access to the stands first, either with a table or making surethe pathway to them is blocked.

Or (thinking out loud) how about attaching a small flashing LED or something to the stand and/or legs? would look a lot classier and may manage to catch peoples attention and stop them before they knock into them? (would be better in the dark for sure) just a thought....

yes i think so aswell, hence i use a 1 meter rope light to make the stands as clear as possable, sometimes some tape

I must admit I too use my ropelight to mark the perimiter of my kit. I always knew there was a reason for having it.:)
